Unfriendly White glass

This weekend I cut 8, 5 inch squares of BE Lacy White glass (3mm, single rolled) and dusted the rough side with some powders. I didn't have any problems cutting the squares. The pieces (single layer) were fired to 1425 and annealed by overnight cooling. This morning I started to cut the big squares ...

Screen Printing setup Pictures

I uploaded some pictures of my screen printing setup to the web. This is how my maglesses were done. The base is particle board with oak trim and Formica top. The hinges are from Dick Blick Art Supplies. Cardboard strips help position the glass. The silkscreen frame is 18" x 20" from Pocon...

http://www.clayartcenter.com/glaze_hanova.htm

Hanovia Glass Gold fires to cone 022, see the chart near the bottom of the to convert to temps.

There is a mistake in the chart, the temperatures given should be f and not c.

Just curious what kind of fuse you get with BE opal red at 1350? Sounds low to me. You're right on the edge of temperature to get Spray A to mature. Depending on how long you soaked at 1350 it may have melted or may not. If the temperature was a little, short the piece will have a frosty to orange p...

Maybe a little safety is needed when using cerium for polish

I have actually heard a new ager friend say that she didn't want to wear a battery powered watch because of the effects of the electric radiation. Bert When the first glow in the dark watches came out they did end up effecting people's health because of radiation. Not the people wearing the watches...

can anyone tell me where I can buy pyro bars 016--017---018 so I can use my larger kiln for fusing and slumping :?: Here's a link to a source of ceramic cones. http://www.clayartcenter.com/kilnaccess_cones.htm The cones are not the best way to fire glass because they will not allow you to soak at f...

Phil :!: I vote for Geri's remedy, Bag Balm. Good for diaper rash too, if that's a problem. To make any of the hand lotions work faster apply a liberal amount and then put on a pair of thin doctor's exam gloves. Leave them on for several hours and yes your hands will sweat and feel hot, but t...

Very interesting findings Steve. Since the pits are showing up on the exposed surface it sure sounds like something is trapped in the blasting pits. You mentioned you see this even on black opal which is one color I use a lot. For me, the black is a dream to fire after blasting with aluminum oxide. ...

Re: rebuilding kiln...question

I'm in the process of rebuilding one of my kilns and would appreciate advice on what type of high temp mortar to use and where to purchase it. Thanks, Avery I've had good luck with Sairset mortar. It comes already mixed. Here's some info on it. http://www.clayartcenter.com/kilnaccess_refractory1.ht...

My two cents, In a past life, when I was involved with stainless steel (AISI 304 - AISI 316) recipients manufacturing, we had to use alumina grinder wheels instead of silicon carbide ones for this last contaminated the SS with carbon then lessening the inox properties. Since irid is a thin metallic...

Re: Eureka

Well, I think I've solved the hazy irid sandwich problem. In short, it's the silicon carbide grit. After innumerable failures with silicon carbide (both 120 and 220 grit), I changed the grit in my blaster to 120 aluminum oxide and blasted, cleaned and fired the same way I had been. Came out perfect...

Steve, double irid haze thingy

Just wondering if you found out anything else about the haze problem and the double irid? I fired a double irid piece last night and it turned out crystal clear. I blasted off the irid with 120 grit aluminum oxide grit, 80 psi, washed with soap and water and a green 3m pad. Firing cycle was 120 min ...

Re: Another box design, with a twist.

A new fused box design. This one has no texture from sand, it was fused freestanding on a kiln shelf. Just a light sandblasted finish to soften the colors.
