Hi Diane, If you use frit you should use the largest size, because it will be the clearest. The smaller the frit the more air bubbles you will trap and it will look cloudy. I personally would use the sheet with Brock's chads because that's what I have experience with. But, I have seen great results ...

I just went through this after being dumped by my old insurance company after I asked them for business insurance and they found out that I had kilns in my house... Anyway, I'm paying a little less than $1400 per year for coverage... liability, damage to work that is finished that is in my studio, a...

One trick will be to get a company to make scaled down spider hardware. I met some Italians who seemed open to making custom stuff. Bert, the collaboration with the steel company was one of the coolest parts of this project. Columbia Wire and Iron is the company that Gehry used to do the Experience...

Eli,

I don't know, I only have up to 800. When I buy some replacement 50s I was also going to order the higher grits. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've been thinking about this resporator stuff for a while, and of course reading what everyone thinks here and over at craft web. I can't remember who it was over there, maybe Pete V., but they made a point about just using a high end dust mask when working wet. They backed it up by saying that the...

A couple of points that have not been hit. Do you use any abrasives when you use the felisatti? Tony , from you last comment about the smooth surface. Do you refire the piece to fire polish after you use the grinder? Amy do you refire or just leave the surface as is? If you don't refire do you coat...

Jason,

The Felesetti gives you a different kind of finish to the surface of the glass. It's much smoother and more refined feeling than the "pitted" surface from sandblasting.

well, then I need to ask, why bother with the one that has the water feed in the first place? We have dozens of angle grinders around here - all sizes and configurations. Wouldn't I just be able to but the discs to fit from CRL and use one of these? BTW Amy, go look at Doug's tools, I'll bet he's g...

I agree with Phil, although I haven't used any of the other models either. I love the finish I'm getting. I use the pads from 50 to 800 and am probably going to get some higher eventually. I use it all the time on every piece now. It just adds to the refinement of the work IMHO.

Jim, I think we will have to agree to disagree here. I think I clearly stated that my comments were my opinion. I wasn't out to change your opinion. I just thought it was important to bring up. What I think it all boils down to is that I hate to see people put down thier money for something that, TO...

Re: What does it matter?

What does it matter if a bunch of hobbyists, like me, are content to make one sheet bowls and drop vases that may even be poorly annealed. It won't reduce the sales volume at the next art show/fair. But it might amuse them and delight the recipients. . I have been reading this thread and have wante...

I don't think you need vent holes. The reason is some people get huge bubbles from wet mulite shelves and when the shelves aren't perfectly flat. On my FB shelves I fire with wet kiln wash all the time and they are definately not flat. The FB allows air to flow even after being ridgidized.

I do it all the time.

I have been told that ceramic fiber devitrifys at 1800. It's a different kind of devit. It doesn't seem to bother the glass that I can tell.

If you do it a lot your board will deteriorate faster than normal.

[Anea's post Unfortunately if I had to do it again, I would splurge on the big one. The small one has huge hassles in changing the belts, getting a drip system to work without getting cloggs, issues with the back plate and more. I have been very dissappointed in the smaller unit. You literally have ...

Yes I do have a Covington. And of course I have a few thoughts too. Like Steve I also have used the larger sanders in other studios. Like David I also have started to invest a considerable amount of money in belts, though not as much as him. Here are my thoughts: The Covington has served my purposes...

Heidi, I wouldn't go back up to 1700 for several reasons. First, the more you high fire a piece the more likely the different glasses involoved will become incompatable. Second, you will achieve the same result at a much lower temperature and you won't risk out of control glass flow. If you want the...

You have to take the metal flange off and put the velcro one on.
