Jackie, 25 degrees and hours is wayyy slow. On pieces that go from 2" to 1" I go as fast as 100 degrees and hour and that's on the 5th firing. As for your anneal, in my kilns, I would go AFAP to 980 soak for 4 or 5 hours, 10F hr to 900 soak for half the time, 20F hr to 600 no soak, 100F hr...

Hi Carol, I just read this thread for the first time. I just wanted to chime in and recommend a cutting tool, if you haven't cut your board yet. I cut board all the time and what I've found to work the best/quickest is a drywall saw. It's only a couple of bucks at the hardware store and you have lot...

Most likely you didn't get the cut edge clean enough. I wouldn't say it's devit, it's just scum from the cutting. You need to make sure you clean your pieces really well after cutting them. Some people toss the cut pieces in a bucket of water right after cutting them. Then they go to the sink with a...

I don't know, I never went to camp. You could ask her if she wants to go and see if you can find a camp that will take her.

Tee Hee! You can come, you just gotta figure out what to do with Morgan for a few weeks. The class is a deal if you ask me.

See you there.

I've always gone for the NIOSH P100's I spoke on the phone with a tech support person at Lab Safety and that's what they would recommend to use. You want something that will filter particles similar to asbestos (sp?).

I agree Brock. I have the same kiln in question. I have had problems with it in the past, including re-building it before it was a year old and Evenheat sent me new bricks and gave me some tech support over the phone. My suggestion would be to call them, they are the ones who designed and built it. ...

Hahahaha I deal with self doubt on a daily basis. Don't feel as if you are alone in this. I am constantly asking myself, how dare I even think I am good enough to even think about attempting I can make something that I think is worth trying. How dare I?! When I was in school one of my professors mad...

It's almost like why would you want to use someone else's language when one's own voice can be heard? It just seems, to me atleast, that it takes a whole hell of a lot more effort to use someone else's language when your own voice is right there trying to sing.

How do you see new work

Ok, I've been hanging out here this afternoon. I was reading the thread that Jackie started and then took a long look at the photographer's web site that Lani posted. The images on the photographer's site got me thinking, how did they envision these images. Then I thought about how I envision my wor...

Wow...I want to reform my response after all this enlightenment. All of you have made me re-examine (again) my thought on my work and where (in my body/soul/brain) it comes from. For a long time my inspiration has come from observing human interaction as well as letting my hand go. I'm not sure how ...

I would heat it up again. It should be just fine. It won't remember that it wasn't annealed the first time. Since it has been up to "high fire" (you didn't tell us what the top temp. was) BE's statements on compatability/color shift are already out the door. Don't worry. I fire my high fir...

I have a Felisetti and an Alpha. I like both. You do need to know that both have parts that wear out. They are called brushes, but look nothing like brushes. Anyway, I agree with Phil on the pads.
