Re: Move digital controller

I will have to have the other knee done next year. I'm glad I didn't do them both at the same time. I need this better knee, even though it's not great either, to get around. I think I will do the same as you and do it in September.

Re: Move digital controller

Well, I had it done on the 16th. It's painful and really swollen. Did you wear the compression stockings for blood clots? I have been, but took them off today because my leg was so swollen and really felt awful in them. I'm going to the Dr's office tomorrow for a handicap card for my car and will as...

Re: Move digital controller

Great, thanks Bert. I will tackle it in 2 or 3 weeks. I just had my right knee replaced, so need to recuperate a little first. I think I will try to move the controller on my big Olympic kiln also. Not so much because it's difficult to program like the Paragon, but for the extreme heat issues.

Re: Move digital controller

How about the element wires? Do they go into the controller or the thermocouple?

Re: Move digital controller

It's on the steel stand that the kiln came with. Since I'm tall, I could raise it up a little bit before it's too high to put work down into.
Do digital controllers last longer when they aren't getting heated up so much from sitting on the outside wall of the kiln?

Re: Move digital controller

Thanks Jim and Bert. The kiln is a Paragon 16" round top load, 240v/20amp, and it has a Bartlett controller. When you program it, you have to press the up or down arrows until you get to the correct number (temp/time). Even though it's on a stand the controller sits really low. It's a real pain...

Move digital controller

Is it possible to move a digital controller from the kiln to the wall? What do you have to do to accomplish this? There is wiring going from the elements and the thermocouple to the controller, right?

Thanks Charlie. I was hoping there was a way to do it besides replacing.

Loose kiln element

I think I have to replace one of the elements in my Olympic Oval kiln. It got loose about a year ago, but until recently was only in one place, about 4" long. About 3 weeks ago I opened the kiln after a firing and now it is loose about 18-24". I tried to put it back in place, but it seems ...

Re: Making your own..... shards

Actually Mark, you are right. The lampwork community calls them shards and fusers call them confetti. They are actually more like confetti, I think... :-k

Re: Making your own..... shards

I find the easiest way to make shards is with a torch and blowpipe, or 1/4 hollow mandrel. Not sure where you are, but all you need is a simple one fuel torch and small bottles of Mapp gas that screw onto the torch. You can get them at hardware stores or Home Depot type stores. I do lampwork (bead m...

Re: Webinars

Wow KaCe, that's a great site! I just got an Apple MacBook Pro and got the help package for $100 for the year, which I will use a lot. But the Lynda site would be great after that and the price is good. Thanks for that info.

Re: Displays for shows

Kevin, what is Instand? When I google it I get a site that sells portable laptop stands and podium type stands. I also found a site in the same google search called Nomadic Display that has wall displays for commercial shows. I can't find anything on their site like shelving.

Displays for shows

Hi all. I am going to upgrade my displays for art shows and craft shows. I was noodling around on the internet looking for shelves that easily set up and break down. I stumbled on a YouTube video by Simon Leach on the shelves he had made for shows. He is a potter. They look really nice and set up/br...

Re: Webinars

Thanks Dana and Cynthia. I do subscribe to the Bullseye video library and I really like the videos. I go on the Corning site a lot looking for classes, but I didn't know they have videos also. I'll check it out. I really love taking classes and peruse the studios closest to me, but haven't had the $...

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

Well said Bert! I joined FB mostly to stay in touch with family. Most of my nieces and nephews are married now and having families of their own. Since they are all over the country it's a good way to stay in touch. For as long as it's here, WG will be my go to place.
