Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

@DrRourke, I'm not sure how long the exchange has been going on, but it wasn't just begun this year. It is an on-going endeavour. The announcement was over a couple of months. I enjoy the making of something that helps me "stretch". I'm not sure if it will happen next year. That isn't up t...

Re: Removing Rim From A Large Drop

I am excited to read this topic. I just finished cleaning up under my deck so I can move my tile saw into my studio to cut off my flanges on the drop parfait glasses I made in February. I had thought of my ring saw to cut kerfs into the flange to remove stress. I have been a wood worker for decades....

Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

I think this is the smallest exchange for anything that I have been in. It ought to be easy and fun. Last call for participants... anyone else want to join the fun?

Jen,
Just do it the old fashion way with a colon: a dash- and a right bracket) = :-) Easy Peasy (it substitutes the emicon automatically)

Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

We are making tiles no larger than 2" square. It could be 1.5 x 2 or 1 x 1, I suppose 1 x3 or some other combination. As there are only three signed up that should hold all of the tiles. Did you want to join in the fun? I'll add you to the list if you wish to participate. Let me know. KaCe You ...

Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

With only three of us participating in the magless exchange I'm sure this signals the end of this endeavor. We can use the small US Postal box. Screen Shot 2016-03-01 at 1.37.16 PM.png When you ship your maglesses, enclose enough money to ship back the box. Put a label in the box, so I can put it on...

Re: Drop Ring: parfait glass

This is the third time I've tried to update my post. The previous two said it was saved to drafts, but I've looked and looked and can't find my drafts. So here I am again. I was having issues with my photos not posting, too, so I reread the forum questions... which is always a good thing to review. ...

Re: Drop Ring: parfait glass

Thank you for the heads up. I have my phone set for a 15 minute alarm. I check the kiln and take a photo. So far it's been 26 hours... though that isn't all at 1225°F. After reaching that temp and holding for 6 hours, I forgot to add time, and when I went out to photography failed to notice that it ...

Re: Drop Ring: parfait glass

I am not disappointed with the replies I just got. Thank you ALL. A friend, Penny, (thank you, Pen) gave me some 1/16" fiber, so I'll use that. I hope I can use it more than once. The BE video shows them stripping it off the dropped piece and throwing it away. (I'm so Scotch-apologies to the Sc...

Drop Ring: parfait glass

I am going to run a test this week. I've read and read, and hope to find someone with experience doing these to give me a thumbs up or down on my idea. I've read that you can plan 2" of drop per layer of glass. That isn't enough for a parfait glass. I am using BE 7" mold. I cut the glass 5...

Re: Chihuly App

After reading this I thought I chirp in on the Studio Movement vs Old World Glass Guilds. I am studying to be a docent at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Before I decided to do this I did not know about the Studio Movement. Until the Studio Movement glass was made/worked/sold by and in guilds. There ...

If you are really interested in painting on stain glass and knowing-how techniques try Stephen Byrne. I subscribe to his newsletter. I love his brief films, his matter-of-fact discussions. Let me know if you like what he is about. I find it adds depth to my knowledge. His site is: http://www.realgla...

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

I began a post, thought I saved it, but can't find it... so am beginning again. I wanted to weigh in on the remarks by others in this thread to the helpfulness of several of the posters, including Cynthia. She was the first person to help me on an issue. She was informative, thoughtful, and friendly...

Re: No more Magless Exchange?

Well, if those who posted here are interested, it looks like it could be a small but easily completed exchange. I gave it until Feb. 15, so will sit tight and see if anyone else weighs in on the topic. I don't mind if there are just a few of us... and I think the fee would reflect that. Less than a ...

Re: No more Magless Exchange?

I find the lack of participation in the topic telling. Will there be only three? Is anyone else interested? There's still time to sign up. Perhaps smaller is better.

I will organize the Magless Exchange

I rather like to think of myself as true to my word. To that end, I said I'd help with it a year ago, but wasn't really needed. It would appear that this year I might be needed. I wanted the group to know that I would honor my commitment. I personally don't care how large, or small, the group that w...
