Re: Brass tube drilling.
Thanks Tom, good idea. These brass tubes are what was once used extensively in the past. They come with a square drive and shank that slip into the tube. Cheap enough for now. Have just finished an inch bore through a 45mm section of glass last night. Do a bit, walk away, do some more. My problem is...

Brass tube drilling.
I have just drilled a 5/8" hole through 40mm of glass. I used 120g silicon carbide grain in the process. The job got done but am feeling my technique or slurry mix may have slowed the job. This is the old style of doing it and wanted to use this system before outlaying on a more expensive set u...

Thanks Peter, old mate. I have more cane ready for another go at this octopus skin idea. When doing an abstract art workshop in 2012 I was drawn to certain random brush strokes and it's these I want to replicate on a panel of glass that shifts colour as the viewers angle changes.

Re: Layered blocks.
Thanks for encouraging response Kim. Was either going to revisit a piece from recent club exhibition/comp. or push technique on smaller, thicker work. Have an order for more tekta from Blue Dog Glass at the moment for this but have decided to just to give it a miss. Just read criteria very carefully...

Re: Layered blocks.
Hey Jen, I keep missing posts. I'm sensitive so only feel real pain, none of the nurses disputed me when I mentioned my hand is giving birth on the first day. Have just ordered more tekta and am weighing up whether I'll have another go at this octopus skin to go towards an entry for jury into MAGE h...

Re: Autumn of our Reign.
Thanks Jen. The glass component is 590mm x 180mm x 15mm. I'm liking where solar energy technology is going. Unfortunately it's not going to be easy.

Re: Autumn of our Reign.
Thanks guys. I didn't mind the nuts at first either but understand now that if I'd made a metal cast of a fixing plate with a multitude of rivet heads to hide a slim nut the viewer would have stood a better chance to solve the puzzle of what the glass component was. It is supposed to be a wind turbi...

Autumn of our Reign.
1-034.JPG 1-041.JPG 1-009.JPG Managed to get a highly commended and a very constructive critique. Originally approached the artist run gallery in the Whitsundays Airlie Beach to gain membership so that I could rotate work through it. Jumped at the opportunity to exhibit a piece in the themed catego...

Re: Layered blocks.
Hey Jen. I like your idea. Don't know when I'll get to revisit these. Probably got another few months of rehabilitation for my left hand so will be avoiding the flat lap. Happy as a pig though that I've completed a work for the Art Whitsunday Inc.'s annual exhibition, young bloke will drive me up th...

Rural as in farming type rural. I've used a plough disc before with success after scuffing and coating with kiln wash. Still have it hanging up waiting for the day that it may get called back for duty. - peace, haydo

Re: Layered blocks.
Thanks Dana. I'm hooked on how the layers end up after manipulation but will have to get better at recording the process for each result. This set didn't come close to matching my thoughts of what may have been created.

Still have a month for themed section of an art exhibition to be judged by the director of Queensland Art Gallery Of Modern Art, QAGOMA. I...

Re: Vermiculite board box moulds.
Thanks for all the food for thought. Didn't know I had any responses to this. Had a mould blow out using the vermiculite constructed using s/s screws like on the Bullseye Glass education section, failure fouth in a row. So have gone back to using kiln shelf and s/s cage and tie wire and it's just co...

Re: Vermiculite board box moulds.
Managed to get a slightly cheaper deal on a pre cut order from a supplier in Melbourne on the 1100degC type vermiculite. Apparently some artist was being all arty farty(most likely couldn't pay the power bill at the same time) and never followed through. I'm mid construction of building moulds for b...
