Controller capability.

Look at the breaker panel. Get a controller that will switch the max amperage of the circuit breaker on the circuit where your kiln is plugged in. If the kiln drew more than that - the breaker would be popping all the time. While not as clean as knowing the actual draw of the elements, it would at l...

Short answer, no, you can't get a replcement at the local hardware. The shortest route will be to get a replacement from Paragon to match your model. A longer answer is that there are 3 types if thermocouples used in kilns. 'K', 'S', & 'R'. You need the type to be matched for what your controlle...

Without knowing the temps you Pot Melt at which, this may or may not be applicable. Many of the colors used in hot glass strike to their final color when they are heated to working temps. This is also true with powders sold for enameling. Enamels for silver and copper go to +/- 1500 f; hot glass is ...

Stick with it

I didn't see the real issue - that the software for the old board style is less than effective - resulting in significantly increased workload on the board operator. Now I personally HATE this software, on any board I've seen it on. But it works... and what is more important than my petty little sni...

I am used to thinking in terms of using fiber frax with rigidizer. If it is dry & crusty on the surface, then you didn't get enough to stiffen the material below the surface. This may or may not be strong enough for your slump. If I want the whole piece saturated all the way through, I soak it i...

I had a local jeweler put 14kt gold rings on several of my pendants and he charged me $10.00 each so I'm staying away from the jeweler. Judy .............................. I dont begrudge a local jeweler that kind of pricing for doing work- he's making a living, running a business [ ya ta ta, we kno...

Teaching what you were taught -Stealing what you have seen.

Well, you certainly got your wish re a lively discussion. Two cents more: * Only people who can't create from scratch steal. They can't create a new idea - you can. Their bottle doesn't have a genie. * There are no new ideas, just some some of us haven't seen yet. * The genie won't go back in the bo...

Re: Soldering Jump Rings

"drilling a hole in the top and putting a silver plated jump ring I'm using 60-40 solder and cleaning the jump rings afterwards with Giraffee Joos or Classic NeutraCLEAN. Any suggestions for bright, shiney jump rings?" My wife is a jewler, so I asked. First, she hadn't heard of silver plat...

Grinding and polishing

Consider also the alterntive of the flat-lap. Covington makes a 16 inch unit and H.I.S. Glassworks sells 16 inch diamond plates for it. I find very few situations where the belt unit is a better answer. (I have both.) If you get one for diamond use, be sure to tell them; they will have the spec for ...
