Re: dichroic glass having flecks come off in firing

I can appreciate that it is hard to make. However, when I spend $90 for my quarter sheet I need to be able to use it to make attractive jewelry. I was too busy with a show these last 2 weekends to use the new firing schedule, but I hope it solves the problem. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for everyon...

Re: dichroic glass having flecks come off in firing

Thank you so much. I do not hold at 1100 like I do for larger work, but I don't go up that fast. I shall try it next week, before I contact my supplier or CBS.

dichroic glass having flecks come off in firing

I have been firing dichro for several years both capped with clear and uncapped. This week I fired a gold marbles patterned dichro uncapped and some of the gold came off. The flecks got on other pieces nearby. Then I tried the same glass with clear over it and you can kind of see the flecks under th...

Re: problems cleaning after full fuse

Right, so I guess the consensus is that it is devit. It really didn't happen (or wasn't visible) until after the second full fuse when I cleaned it. It looked perfectly clear, I sprayed Spartan on it, wiped it and viola - haze!

Thanks all for your suggestions.

Re: E6000

Thanks Tracy. I had tried alcohol last year on something that did not work. But this piece is only the residue so I may have success with acetone.

Re: problems cleaning after full fuse

I suppose it might be a weird thing where the cleaning brought out some devit that wasn't visible?? seems very odd though. Thanks for your help. I don't have a sand blaster to clean it off and there is dichro on the piece that would be hard to mask anyway. Any solutions to remove the haze? Thanks to...

Re: problems cleaning after full fuse

It is Concentrated WIndow Cleaner, that I bought from the Bullseye catalog a few years ago. I dilute it 20 to 1 as instructions indicate.

E6000

I used E6000 on a piece and hung it before it was completely dry. Stupid I know, but it happens. The circle piece that was glued on instead of tack fused on, slid down until it stopped at a stringer. It hardened there, which I could live with, but a lot of the glue remained where the circle should h...

problems cleaning after full fuse

This seems really bizarre to me, but I was cleaning the violet striker after it had been fired twice (first time underfired) to a full fuse temp. I was using the bullseye recommended cleaning techniques as I had before each of the fuse firings - lint free cotton cloth and Spartan cleaner. Before my ...

Re: do I need to replace those falling pins

Thanks for all the answers. OK. I'll put them back in. I hate the pins. You never know when one is coming down. That is why I originally bought my Glassglow - no pins. But then I decided I needed a small kiln too, so I bought the Scutt 14 and the pins. I think I am scared of the cementing but I'll k...

do I need to replace those falling pins

After having a large glassglow kiln with no pins (and no problems by the way) I added a 14" firebox to my studio. Pins are falling like crazy. I have about 5 on the floor and one on a piece so far. Do I really need to replace them or can I just leave them out? No sagging elements yet.
