Hey Bert - if she's using System 96 - why shouldn't she soak at 950, as recommended by Spectrum?

Anne, did you have to rough up the surface of the glass and the standoff before you put on the glue?

Re: New

I have a ceramic kiln, and fire both ceramics and glass in it. It works fine. I would say though, if you are only going to work in glass, and don't need the depth of a ceramic kiln, go with a glass kiln. I have found with my ceramic kiln that I have to fire glass slower because of the elements on th...

Re: New Slump MOLD

Thanks Leslie - I did hold for about 9 hours at 300, but I went up at 100 (followed R&R's recommendation)- so that was probably why it cracked in half. But I am curious to see how you are going to support this mold - I propped mine up with kiln posts and I think that could have been also part of...

Re: New Slump MOLD

Leslie, How do you support a mold like this in the kiln? I did something very similar to this a month ago, but made my mold with R&R 910 (trying to use it up). My mold was about 1 inch thick around the entire piece. In the kiln, it cracked into two - I had it supported on kiln posts. The piece s...

Re: Pate de verre cracking

Kevin, I read Graham's book and he referred to Lundstrom in his firing schedules. I bought Lundstron's Glass Casting and Mold Making book, and Dan Fenton's Pate de Verre book and was using all of these for reference in doing this, as well as the Bullseye annealling schedules. Cynthia is right - the ...

Pate de verre cracking

DSCN0229-web.jpg I am playing around with Pate de Verre trying to learn something new. Our local art museum has a fundraiser every year where they hand out ceramic masks to artists to decorate/create and then turn back in for a silent auction. I took my mask (she's not very pretty, but that's okay)...

Re: 'Damming ' with iridescent glass

Havi,

Irid will stick to the unfinished sides of your glass - so I don't think it's a good material to use to for a dam. I think you have to have irid to irid before it will not adhere.

Re: My oh my, is this schedule as weird as it looks?

I'm guessing the hold at 200 is for when you are doing a casting in a plaster mold so that the mold can dry out. If you are using a ceramic mold, it wouldn't apply. I would do just what Valerie recommended and go slower on the way up.

Re: Broke it during blasting

I would put a piece of clear underneath it and dam it very tightly and fuse it again - going slower and adding a bubble squeeze. I think this piece is really cool. I hope you can save it.

I would cut up the broken pieces and use them as accents in other pieces. What a beautiful piece and a shame.
