Milking Turtles

Isn't turtle wax gotten from turtles? Sort of like milking cows? Or was it originally used on turtles, before cars needed it?

Way back, the Turtle Wax advertising promised Turtle Wax would protect your car with a shell-hard shine...or something like that.

I haven't tried baking soda and glass enamels with fusing yet, but with a torch the enamels get all bubbly and crusty. Kind of ancient looking. Bead artists have commented though that their baking soda beads seem really unstable and many crack. So maybe the baking soda needs to be "neutralized&...

Thanks Paul - that's good to know...and I probably should have posted my question before I fired. The good news is there wasn't any smoke or odd/foul odors when I fired the bowl and I'm still here. Lucky this time, and more knowledgeable for the next time.

Thanks again,

Can I use this bowl as for slumping?

Hi all, I purchased an small dish with a nice low slope to use for slumping. It was silver in color, no markings to say what it was made of, so into the kiln it went to soak at around 1400 for about 30 minutes. As expected, the silver "stuff" burned up, leaving a lovely layer of black crud...

Sharon,

If the "cloudy ring" that you're talking about is part of the groove you just ground...fire-polishing your cab a bit would bring back the transparency. Hmmm...another thought...do you have the bit in upside down? Perhaps the grinding edge is up too high?

Hi Deborah,

Try posting your question over on the Bulletin Board here on the warmglass site. This is the classified ads and folks that would likely answer your question are not apt to see it here.

Good luck!

Hi Kelly, I a big supporter of the Brookfield Craft Center. I volunteer there and have been "encouraging" them to add a pate de verre/kiln-casting class to the roster. A while back, I posted to the old bulletin board here looking for reco's on pate de verre instructors to forward to BCC. A...

Casting Newbie - Info/direction please.

Hi Everyone, I currently work with fused glass and dabble with lampworked beads - a self-proclaimed glass addict. I am so fascinated by pate de verre and eagerly want to learn more. Unfortunately, there are no classes to be found in my area, so if I am to get started, I'll have to make initial headw...
