Re: Glass Supplies Miami Area

Hi Paula,

we are in Cape Coral (Ft. Myers) and we are the distributor for Wissmach 90 and 96 glass. If you like you can come over and pick it up here. We will receive 2 crates by beginning of next week. You will get a nice quantity discount.

Re: How to dry frit

I like washing my frit, too then I apply it wet to the glass and let it sit to dry in the kiln room over night. If you use it for castings then I would dry it spread out thin on clean sheets of glass covered with some newspaper over night.

Re: Sand Mold Basics

I use the dust/powder (trash) from Kaiser Lee Board. It is fine, does not heat up and does not stick to the glass. Does not leave any gum and takes on any impression you want.

HI Gale, try to use iridescent glass on the sides toward the board so you will get a nice finished look. For an 8" high piece, stack 9 to 10 pieces of 1" Fiber board (try Kaiser Lee Board  ) so you can load it higher, glass will shrink in the process. KLB does not need any mold harde...

Hi Twinkler 2, making pockets with any fiber materials can end in a disaster if they are bigger than 1/2 ". Fiber boards or fiber paper are insulation materials and the glass under the fiber is colder, while the glass around the fiber is hot. We take copper pipes, hammer them down a little bit,...

Hi Ellen we tell people to full fuse and slump into kaiser lee board as long as they go only 1" deep. You can cut out shapes of the 1" board and use it as slump mold. If you wanted to use the same mold to make a vase or a deep dish, you just set it on posts. But than you need to full fuse ...

Hi Bev,

Lisa Voigt showed in an article in the Glass Crafts Magazine to use the cookie cutters to cut out kaiser-lee-board and use it as a casting mold. If you use iridescent side of the glass against the board, you don't have any sticking problems

have fun :P
