Casting Schedules?

Is there a website (besides BE) that has annealing schedules for large, thick castings? Especially interested in float glass.

Goodies to come!

I see everyone who signed up got their mags in and sorting should be on this weekend. Sue, you need to post some pics of the sorting/mailing etc. That's always a blast!

Will pay for glass help/instruction

Will pay for prototype and process to teach us to make a sand mold for a flat 1-layer glass production piece. 18x18 with bumpy texture underside. Tried Castalot but depressions too deep to allow air escape. Sand works best, but techinique needs refining. Must be easily repeatable for production. PM ...

New Zealand trip

Some good friends are traveling from the US to New Zealand for a month and would love to visit glass studios--particularly cast and thick glass artists. If you are open to visitors, please send me your websites (via PM is fine) so I can forward. Thanks!

Re: Sand Mold Basics

Thanks. I hadn't looked up Green Diamond. After I was told it was 3x the cost of olivine, I didn't pursue it. I'll get a bit from the foundry and test.

Re: Sand Mold Basics

I have just been told by the foundries that olivine is no longer available. The foundry is using a product called Green Diamond, which they say is just crushed glass. So. what are the glass casters using instead?

Sand Mold Basics

I am needing a basic, step-by-step tutorial on making a 12x12 open-faced sand mold using "play" sand. Need to impress a pattern to come out crisp and sand-free. I also have some olivine sand, but more "play" sand. Help, please. Thank you, in advance.

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

It would be helpful if this list, and updates, were pinned to the top of the thread. I really didn't know how many to make until I found this. The 2013 Magnet participant list * offered to help sort Bold name = Magless received 1. Brad Walker - NC Pd 2. Susan McGarry - CA Pd *3. Charles Hall - CA Pd...

Re: Alternate Frit Maker - any downsides?

Our low-tech frit machine is a cement block and a hammer. Works extremely well, with no metal fragments. Just make sure you don't have cement in your frit by using an encasing material like foam (newspaper degrades too much).

I use equal parts of: Plaster of Paris (from Lowes) Diatomateous Earth (swimming pool filter media from Walmart) to which I add about 5% kiln wash (Hot Line or Bullseye) It may not be "the best" mix, but the only exotic stuff is the shelf wash, which you should already have. This mix can ...
