Kiln-forming discussion
I always use kiln wash on my stainless with no problems. Mix it with methyl hydrate instead of water. I looks like a thin coat on the stainless. After you have covered all the surfaces you set the methyl hydrate om fire. *****Make sure all containers of methyl hydrate are closed and put away before ...

Beware of fumes and toxic dust. Burning it off in you kiln COULD harm your elements. Remember everything you put in your kiln ends up in some form on your elements. Steel wool will workbut it will take time. Also be aware that if your wire is the stuff I'm thinking it is, It can also burn . Firing i...

I haven't bought any new rods in Two Years. Does anybody know of any new colours that they like that I might like. I do have lots of colours but I am always looking for new colours to try.I tried to to surf a little on Frantz Art Glass ( I always order from them ) but I couldn't do it effectively. I...

Lids can be tricky. I got mine from Pottery Supply House in Oakville (Ontario,Canada) I have a large kiln. Then told me that I didn't need and safety supports to keep my lid open. I did anyway. I just have a closing hook on a chain that just assures my lid stays where it is. The problem I did have w...

Drilling glass
On this board I got two of the best recommends for drilling glass. 1. Use Triple Ripple Drill bits. I have used lots but love these. Not as many break through the back. 2. Put a piece of foam or styrofoam in your water bath to support the glass while you drill. When you drill all the way through you...

Pre-Cut Letters and Numbers
Does anyone know where to get 90 C.O.E cut out letters and numbers. Small ones. 1 to 3 inch. Bullseye would be my glass of choice but Uros is okay too. I have a ring saw and I cut my own but I heard someone talk about Water Jet cut shapes. This would probably be easier but I can't buy anymore equipm...

I use Bullseye kiln wash and methyl hydrate. No pre heating the mold. Mix kiln wash and methyl to the right consistancy, a litle thinker than normal. Brush on mold covering everything well. It will run over the sides and look very thin. Seal up all methyl hydrate products ( the fumes are very very f...

I have tried lots of different combos ( globs to globs, globs to float glass, globs to BE,SP,URO) All eventually craked. Some cracks weren't visible to the naked eye but under spectro... lots of stress. I now make my own glob in the kiln. BE and URO both work great. Making my own takes time but in t...

Kilns
You can use a pottery kiln. There is no reason not too. You will have to do lots of testing to discover hot and cool places. If you are going to large pieces, there is where the problems may occur. If you imagine a piece of glass in a pottery kiln, the glass closest to the sides will be hotter than ...

One way to maybe solve this problem would be to spend a little money and get it framed. A wooden frame would help to stabilize everything. I have used heavy fused pieces in a panel before and I have found a wooden frame has elimimated the need to figure out where the strongest solder joints would be...

You asked about other colours. I have been cutting glass for 13 years. I did stained glass first then fusing then hot. I find that lots of other colours cut different. I use a lot of Spectrum glass for stained glass and I teach with it but lots of colour cut better than others. I find that pinks and...

Maybe all the coverage of the War has made me a little sappy.BUT can't we just all get along. We all see things the same and different. I have learned (very painfully with profesional attacks) that IF someone is insecure about their work ie. quality, design, distrubution, they usually lash out at ot...

I have just spent the last 4 hours drilling holes. It is a slow, sllooowwww, process. You can't rush. I tried and ,you guessed it ,glass broke. My husband also tried to "Tim Taylor" my process. Yup, glass broke. I use a drill press. I use a tupperware container with a piece if wood in the b...
