Glass paints

I'm working with an artist in Norway. She has a large (old) supply of "Scanart" powders that she thinks might be paint. Does anyone know anything about these products? Also, "Satellite Unique" paints. Thanks

Some thoughts and ideas just take time. Congrats on taking the time to allow this thought to mature.

Re: capping with coarse frit to reduce bubbles

I would go SLIGHTLY heavier around the entire edge of a circle. If you can't see what is below the poeder, it's too heavy. You might want to do some tests to get the right amt of powder. I really use a very minimal amount.

Re: Plate broke during slumping

Either raise the shelf or baffle the sides. Glass wants to be the same temp all the way through and at all times. You must think like the glass and think like the kiln to make that happen.

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

I saw an artist using an equal part (with plaster and silica)
of alumina hydrate in her molds. The finish of the work after demolding was as good as any acid polished surface I've seen.

Just have to chime in here. Kirstie is an amazing teacher. I have taken a class from her as well as TAing for her in Scotland last summer. Kirstie encourages her students to think about the direction of their work and to use the material in a way that it will work with the artists ideas and concepts...

I have given a piece to the Liberty Museum the past two years. I have been in the Live auction both times and my piece sold between retail and wholesale. While that was disapointing, it's reality. I have taken the 25% offered. I give pieces to three auctions annually. I have very special feelings fo...

I use them almost daily in my work. I use only the 3M brand as the seem to last considerably longer than the others. I have some pads that are 3 yrs old. I use from 60 to 800. I have cut some into special shapes for special purposes. I use the 3" square more than the thicker rectangular ones......

Dear fellow artists. We cannot deny that we are artists. Nor should we be ashamed. If you want out, next time an admiring individual spends some of their hard earned money on one of your pieces that they will be proud to display or to use; tell them, that the work is thoughtless, doesn't mean a damn...
