Re: Glass rug

Nice! I always thought I would do a fused run, but never tried it. Mine would probably not be as beautiful or detailed as this.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

If I find something on FB I think I want to refer to again I message it to myself. There is a little check mark in the top right corner of all posts on your timeline that you can click on to remove the post.

Re: reply to query: Revolution XT, do you like it?

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll do some more reading and head scratching. Seems like a lot of money if it doesn't deliver as promised. I have an 8" tile saw for straight cuts of thick glass so I would only be using it for curves.

Re: marking glass to be cut with Revolution XT

Disappointing that the dichro chips so badly with this saw. I was looking at it online today. Other than that , do you like it? Is it worth the money? Anybody else have one? I bought the original Taurus ring saw and it was junk. Little plastic parts that wore out FAST. Blades that broke no matter ho...

Re: Fusing wire between 2 sheets and then slumping

In my experience, the glass will break because it moves, the wire does not.

Re: Tiny hole

You will need to go to a full fuse again. If possible, I would add a design element to cover it as, in my experience, patches always show.

Re: Tekta not so clear...

I have had trouble with "tire tracks" ( roller marks) with Tekta that don't show up until you fuse it over a dark color. I don't plan to buy it again after my supply is gone.

Re: Adhesive for acrylic French cleats - update

I have been using Dap brand silicone for years with no failures. I am not a fan of epoxy as I have had failures with it, especially after several years. If you use epoxy use the slow set kind. I used to use french cleats, but now use extruded square tubing that I cut to the desired length and drill ...

I.too, dry cut. My reasoning is that it makes cleaning the glass before firing much easier.

That was exactly what I was suggesting. The rest of this sad story of my runaway kiln (when I was sleeping, most of my firings take too long to be there all the time) was that there was some kind of weird incompatability between my new Euclid kiln and my old Kilntrol controller that I had been using...

Having had a kiln control fail and do major damage to a brand new kiln...over-heated and burned out a couple elements, large amount of glass ran off the shelf and ate deeply into the kilnwashed bottom of the kiln and up the bottom layer of side fire brick....I installed a kiln sitter and use it as a...

I have a Euclid oval kiln. Seems well made and they have great customer service. I think they will pretty much customize the depth etc. The top elements are in a grove that does not allow them to sag (replaced by feeding them in from the edge) My kiln does not have a separate switch for the side and...

Why the shelf primer paper? Easier to just fire on the primed shelf. When new to kilnforming I tended to fire too hot and too quickly, with the result of too much sticking of the primer and too many bubbles. I have had better resluts with a very conservative schedule. I, too, started out with a (use...

When I was first doing fusing I used copper wire inclusions in a plate that was to be slumped. It cracked on the slump firing. Assuming it was that the glass stretched, the wire didn't. Now I never do wire inclusions in anything that I intend to slump.

The glass in question is 1/4 inch thick, and, I think about 5 years old. About a half dozen pieces 5 ft x 5 ft or larger. luckily they are in the studio next to mine so don't have far to carry them. I don't have much experience cutting thick glass...guess I better check the archives. Thanks again fo...

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll take it. At this point I don't have a clue what I'll do with it, but have been thinking of broadening my horizons a bit. I don't even normally use float glass. I usually use Bullseye. I just finally got both a digital camera and a scanner so now will have to figure o...

low E glass for fusing

I have the opportunity to get several large pieces of low E coated plate glass for free. Is it possible to fire them in my kiln like any other glass or do they give off some sort of noxious fumes or have other problems? I,m thinking maybe I should pass on them?

Thanks for any help, Judith

Slow setting epoxy is much stronger than 5 min. Also, I haven't tried it but it has been suggested previously on this web sight that the strength is increased by putting it in a warm..150 degree? oven for a couple hours after it is glued up.

Why is it necessary to take the pot out? Haven't tryed a pot melt yet and don't like reaching into a hot kiln if I don't have to. It is very awkward in gloves that are way too big .....can't find any to fit. :(
