Dean,

I don't know a thing about how to build kilns, however, I'm now reading an old book called Kilns Design, Construction, and Operation by Daniel Rhodes. Maybe some of your questions can be answered by this book. Good Luck!

I'm not sure this will help you very much, but I keep my kiln on the screened in porch. It is 12" away from the inside wall and I have it sitting on 12" tile block. I also keep it covered with a waterproof tarp when not in use. Good Luck!

Torsten- I'm not sure if this will help you any for I don't make any pendants. However, when I need to make a "hole" in one of my pieces to put a cord in for hanging, I just roll a small piece of fiber paper and put it between two of the layers of glass. The glass will end up slumping arou...

Thanks Tony for the insight on the two sides for the red opal. I'll keep that in mind the next time I use it.

Jim's probably right. I've done several pieces using the red opal and on just this last piece (a plate) the red turned more of a "brickish" color. When I compared it to the color of the previous pieces it was definitely a different shade of red. It was probably the batch of red opal glass ...

I've used the transparent cherry red to full fuse and I'd say it stays pretty true to cherry red. If any of red turned more of a "brick" color it would be the red opal.

I have a jen-ken 11'' hexagon and just love it. One of the features I find invaluable is the window and would highly recommend it. I have found their customer service to be good also.

cutting double thickness on gryphon bandsaw

Linda-
I think the gryphon bandsaw is capable of cutting multiple layers of glass at a time. That said, I tried to cut three layers of glass once with lots of curves to the design and ended up with a ruined blade.

I love your iron stands! One question-can you add texture to the iron, like a pounded hammer imprint?

Taurus vs Gryphon

I have a gryphon and would not recomend it. Granted, I have never tried any other kind so I have nothing to compare. I find the blade is tricky to keep on and always wants to come off when cutting. (Good eye protection is a must!)
