Re: Devit Problem with BE

I stopped using Thinfire because I got scum so often. I use Papyros exclusively if I'm going to use shelf paper but kiln wash always works best for me.

Mounting Glass in a Shadow Box, Etc.

I was wondering the best way to attach glass to the back of a shadow box or a board or otherwise. I've seen fused glass in shadow boxes. This weekend I saw a fused glass panel maybe 8" x 14" mounted to what looked like a canvas in a frame. Do you glue it somehow? A small piece I can image ...

Re: Bullseye Thin Fire - Grrrr!

I sure do appreciate all the great responses. It's weird because it doesn't happen all the time. Maybe its just certain types/colors of glass. I don't use it at temps higher than 1470-1480. I vent the kiln. I never use it with my final firing. I'm going to do some experimenting this weekend and we w...

Re: Bullseye Thin Fire - Grrrr!

I appreciate the responses and suggestions! Thin Fire has never "rolled" for me. I used to have that problem with the economy shelf paper and in fact that was one reason I stopped using it and decided to spend the extra money on the Thin Fire. So I am really disappointed with it's performa...

Bullseye Thin Fire - Grrrr!

Anybody have any tips for using Thin Fire without getting scum on glass? This is true Bulleseye Thin Fire, not the economy crap. So far it works well with white opalescent glass. Clear, black, any translucent colors I get scum. Someone once told me to pre-fire it but then it turns to dust. I'm about...

Kiln wash won't stick to new ceramic mold

This is the first time I've encountered this problem. I was putting kiln wash on some new molds tonight. One of the molds the kiln wash beads up. These are ceramic molds like all the rest that I have. I mean it kinda sticks but I can brush it off in areas. It's like there's something on the mold yet...

Help with Fusing Schedule

Hello everyone... I'm getting ready to fire 2 layers (6-7 mm) of 90 C0E glass about 14" in diameter. I'm trying to put together a schedule so I don't have bubbles and I don't fire too fast which I have a tendency to do because I'm impatient. This is my first attempt at firing something t...

What to do with and old kiln?

I'm getting a new kiln next week. The one I have right now still works but It sustained water damage a couple of weeks ago. Even after drying it out I consistently get scum on my glass which I think has something to do with crud from the water that got absorbed into the firebrick. You can see the di...

Thanks Bert. It seemed to be okay last night. We'll see how it goes. I've had that little kiln since 1997 and am quite fond of it. :)

Re: Jewelry adhesive advice

I gave up on E6000 because I wasn't using it properly. I have a 2 part epoxy that I like because it sets up quick but I took a class with Barry recently where he demonstrated his technique for using E6000 and now that's what I use. As long as you rough up both surfaces, clean them well, stick 'em to...

Wet kiln - need advice

Hello everyone... we had a water issue last week and my small Jen-Ken got wet. I didn't realize it until last night when I noticed that the inside shelf felt damp. I think water soaked through the firebrick (it was closed at the time of the leak). I turned it on and held my breath. The elements and ...

I stopped using Thinfire because the results were often unpredictable. I now use Papyros and I like it a lot better. Plus you can re-use it.

I just recently heard about Dichroic Extract. It's apparently pretty new but has anybody experimented with it yet?

Glass Glue

I have not been able to find the perfect way to bond a silver bail to the back of a fused glass pendant. Can someone suggest a type of glue or epoxy that works best for them? I have been using 2-part epoxy but I've noticed that it doesn't take too much force to separate it from the glass. Any sugges...
