I can´t stand ignoring it...tin side... again...

After all this time working with float glass, I don´t know wich is the tin side...
Is the lamp that is used to discover it the same that is used to cure UV glue?
Please, don´t laugh, I can hear it...

H Nancy I use contact lenses, and had had dryness problems last year. During some time I used glasses, but now I use my contact lenses, and I am very careful, as I was told to be by many friends from the board, and use googles to look inside the kiln... I hate glasses, can´t live without my contact...

Well I´m still a beginner, but it´s amazing that you did this so beautiful pieces with so little time of experience!
Congratulations, I loved your work

Hey folks Bert, About the comment from Delores, " Charlie--- ludo is crushed up old fired plaster so that would be a 70% plaster to 30% silica ratio with might be too tough a mix for delicate pate de verre but it might be the holy grail for large cast pieces that weigh 40 plus pounds. I'm not ...

Katia, can't you just get your own silica off the beach in rio? Or is it too hard to sift out all the cigarettes and thong bikinis? Well, now I am completely lost :?: I am used to buy silica(flint, quartz) as a powder so thin as the plaster. On the beach we have sand. I know sand is silica, but I a...

As a new glassworker, I need to have a critics space.

Delores I was under the impression that the ideal mix has 40% plaster by weight and that doing it by volume, more or less approximates that figure. I think the idea is to have just enough plaster to get it to set up hard enough to work. When I make up recipes by weight, I leave the plaster at 40% a...

Hi
My new silica arrived today, and I made some beautiful molds!
The problem was bad plaster or bad silica...
Thanks a lot.
By the way, the mold I made using plaster / sand / talc worked fine, no cracks at 870 celcius.

I´ve done some hi fires that I liked only with float.
I put some scraps, siffed porcelain paint, more scraps, another paint color (total 3 or 4 colors), siffed lots of Borax over all and it really worked, do devit, and good colors.
But remember that I am new to all this too!
