Re: What would the schedule be to refire?
Thank you Lisa and being somewhat new at all of this if I decided to do the second firing what would be the schedule I would program in? or could I just use the preprogrammed one and when it hits 1400 would I just stop it and let it drop down naturally? Thank you again for your help! Jeri If it did...

For a piece that size, my slump schedule would be: 250dph to 1150, hold 20 minutes 9999dph to 960, hold 2 hrs 60 dph to 750, no hold Your pre programmed sch would probably work fine. I am not sure what temps are associated with slow, med and fast in your kiln, but I would choose a ramp that doesn't ...

Jeri- I have not had luck with the tear marks going away during the slump. But, I have refired pieces that have the tears on a new piece of thinfire up to 1400, no hold and gotten rid of them. it adds a firing, but worth it if you need the mark gone. The thinfire seems to maintain its integrity in t...

Don, I learned a bit about micas in a class. We airbrushed the mica on the whole surface of the base black glass and fired it, then washed the fired tile to remove all the loose mica, then applied the resist, sandblasted down to the black, removed the resist and refired to bring the blasted black ba...

Galleries.....making contact
Ok, so I have a list of galleries that I would like to contact about my work. What now? What is the best way to approach them through the mail (none are near me). Send a color brochure, send a wholesale price list with pics of each piece, send a letter of interest.......or all of the above? I am los...

Isnt that the point of learning a new technique......so that you can use it in your work??? I feel like everyone puts their unique slant on what they learn anyway, so the same technique can have many different incarnations depending on who is using it. For me, this goes for teaching as well. I did n...

Re: Build a frame around the pattern bar piece?
emphasize the seams. cut 3/8" (thickness of back under the pieces + thickness of pieces) strips and use them on edge. put a pattern bar in the corners to make it really unusual. doing it this way you may not even need a back to the pattern pieces, and then they'll show on both sides of piece w...

Re: Build a frame around the pattern bar piece?
When I make something like this I usually build a frame the same thickness as the central portion so the piece has a uniform thickness. Maybe this isn't the effect you want, but I've not had any thermal shock problems with it. Steve Well, I am looking for a continuous border with no seams and stack...

Lisa, It's obvious that the glass blew up on the way up... but I see a piece of what looks like black irid blown to pieces and not a piece of clear. Is there another piece of glass there? What was the thickness of the base glass? Was the base larger than the pattern bar piece? If it was, that may h...

Explosion.....wha happened?
Well, I had a massive explosion apparently. I checked and rechecked the schedule and it was fine. Same schedule that I have used a bunch of times for the same type pieces. So, this is my question.......I noticed a pocket of air trapped in the clear base glass when I was assembling the piece in the k...

I would do at least an hour there. But in the past I have had trouble in the 96...
