Re: Pot Melt Questions ???

Barbara Muth wrote:Lisa, how easy would it be to cut one of those sheets down? Have you tried it?
I did try it, but I only have a large pair of tin snips and it was a no go. The stuff I'm getting is pretty heavy and rigid. Bolt cutters might do the trick, as Tom mentioned, but I don't have any.

Cool work, Cheryl. I really like Entwined. I also like the way you have hung them, where did you get the framing apparatus?

The Overbearing Presence
Very funny, Overbearing Presence. I see that I am on my own deciding what is not me.

Ooouuu, I am IN. Just what I needed to shake things up a bit. But I am wondering what is off limits for me. Obviously I use tons of color, but I go nuts with black and white too? Something asymetrical would definitely send me reeling and maybe less movement too. Any thought before I begin this anti-...

All this talk of 20 year old thermocouples has me wondering about the liklihood of mine failing......this kiln is only 2 years old??? Not that anomolies don't happen, but doesn't that seem awefully young for a serious drift? Lisa P.S. 1550 got rid of the sinkholes but overcooked the piece, it was da...

Lisa-Omega's number is 800-222-2665. I use part no. TJ36-ICSS-14U-12. This is a type J stainless sheathed 1/4" ungrounded. I use the fat ones cuz they can really take some hits and keep working fine. The thinner probes will respond faster, but are too delicate for the ham handed likes of me. T...

Tony and Bert- The thermocouple that I have is an exposed ceramic sheathed one. It came with the kiln attached to a Rampmaster II. Is there a thermocouple like you guys are talking about that would work for this setup, wired to the controller and protruding through a hole into the kiln? Thanks, Lisa

Lisa My guess is that 1" of glass is a considerable mass and it was taking longer for the glass to reach temp. Perhaps a longer soak would have done the trick. Unless of course you meant 2 different pieces of 1/2" in which case it could still be a question of soak time... What do you thin...

Weird temp issues

I had a strange firing yesterday and wanted to get some feedback. I was fusing a couple of 1/2" pieces and took them up to 1500 as I have done many times in the past in my evenheat oval. WHen they cooled I noticed that there were sunken areas where the bars butt up together like it wasn't taken...

It's almost like why would you want to use someone else's language when one's own voice can be heard? It just seems, to me atleast, that it takes a whole hell of a lot more effort to use someone else's language when your own voice is right there trying to sing. Amy I like what Amy is saying. My opi...

Make sure your iron pipe is grounded. You didn't say what the iron pipe is for (I'm guessing its your air supply). Hopefully, you're not trying to ground your cabinet to a gas line. Usually copper water supply lines make a reliable ground point. It is my air supply, Larry. How do I ground it? My so...

Shocking.....

Well, I got 2 alligator clips and a length of ground wire and hooked one end up to my sandblasting cabinet and the other to the black iron piping system that I put up, but I am still getting the crap shocked out of me. What have I done wrong?

Lisa Isn't the water jet an amazing machine. I got to watch it work at John Groth's studio. John is an expert at cutting glass. He explained to me that the critical moment is when the jet cuts through the bottom on it's way through the thickness of the glass. Once it is moving around, there are few...

My husband says to me when I read your reply, "You asked her if she owned it?? I could have told you that!" Was it expensive to have them do it? And you had to send them all the way to OR from TN? No place closer? -A I am working on the closer part. I have a couple of leads to follow up o...

Question from my husband who loves the gadgets...where did you get a water jet? Do you own one? -A Ha, I wish! I used Water Jet Design in Oregon to cut them out for me. Brock, the top piece sits in grooves cut into the metal, dabbed with silicone. The bottom one has its own little clip that was welded onto the snakey piece of metal that comes up into the void. Lauren, thanks. I have had the pieces for months, waiting for my busy metal worker friend to get crackin. ...

Pic of new work

Here is a pic of something new. Closer shots can be seen on my website, go to the sculptural page. It was really hard to get a good shot, the metal work is far more intriguing in person, but I don't think it shows really well in a photo.....or maybe I am just the shittiest photographer on the planet...
