I was a potter before becoming hooked onto glass, and the national pottery conference (NCECA) alternates on either coast every year, so that the travel burden is equally shared among all. I think that is a good idea, as well as a good way to see what different areas have to offer the warm glass worl...

I was going to slump them, but don't have the right mold, and thought that buying them would be just as easy... If you know of a source that would be great. I have searched the web and come up empty. Barbara

Thanks for the suggestions..... and yes, what was I thinking teaching a class for the first time with little to no equipment. I do have 2 small kilns and we will just have to divide up the space evenly. I think magnets and coasters are a great idea, and a few pieces of jewelry. Thanks for all the id...

workshop ideas

I have been asked to conduct a weekend workshop ( two days, 10:00-4:00pm) on glass fusion. I only have two little kilns and 12 people are taking the workshop. I have never taught a glass fusion class before and would like as much advice as possible. I know this is a big topic, so I appreciate any ad...

gold leaf calligraphy on Judaica???

I have seen some judaica pieces ( matzah plates, sedar plates ) with gold leaf hebrew calligraphy. Does anyone know where I can purchase this type of gold calligraphy. It looks as if it was premade and then fused onto the glass plate. Thanks. Barbara

I never heard of flipping over the piece from fuse to slump..... Is that to get rid of the texture on the bottom from the fiber paper....? But I usually only slump to 1200 degrees which is not fire polish temps.... I am confused. Barbara

I also just had that problem, with a disc of clear ( 15 " in diameter) with a second layer of colored transparent fused on top, all BE 90 COE, and after the slump to 1225, it came out with the bottom perfectly clear but the slumped rim milky, not devited, just milky. This has never happened bef...

large glass installation mounting problems

I have been commissioned to create a large ( 6' x 8') glass fused art piece to be displayed in a hospital pediatric lobby. I am thinking of making multiple tiles or 3 -5 larger, longer panels, but am confused as to how to mount them on the wall. When the wall was designed the architect planned on a ...

Well, for anyone out there who is interested, etching cream does remove silver sharpie marks on irid coating without ruining the irid coating...... I just tried it, left it on for ~ 15 minutes and washed it off, scrubbed a little and voila, a sharpie-less look!!!!! Barbara

sharpie marks

Borck, thanks for the reply, but the marks are on irid glass fused onto black glass. Do you think that etching cream could remove the silver sharpie marks and not hurt the irid coating, as the cream does not do a good job removeing irid????? Barbara

Does anyone know how to remove silver sharpie marks after firing. I just discovered the silver sharpie to mark on black glass, and assumed it would burn off like black ink does...... Now I have lots of little silver marks all over a kiln load of plates.... is there anyway to get that off now???? Tha...
