Coincidence or trouble?

Last week I was slumping a sheet of glass that I worked on years ago. On the way up it cracked. The ramp rate was 300° an hr. It must not have been annealed correctly. Today I put 2 sheets of glass in the kiln both 14 X 14. Clear over Black rainbow irid. Again I got thermal shock on the way up. Thi...

Larry's comment was correct. If you have a ramp speed that is too fast for the kiln to go you will get the FTH message. If you use 9999 it will remove the FTH or FTL. The controller that you have is made by Bartlett. If you are getting to your temp and the piece is not doing what it did before one p...

MK370 Saw

Does anyone know about this saw? I have access to one? Does it do a good job or should I hold out for a larger one?

I even contacted the manufacturer and one of the women that I talked to suggested that I use a spray enamel on the back and don't use their product.

I am surprised at how many people got hit from the glass world. I have been getting about 4 or 5 of these bad e-mails a day. Once it opens up it goes into your address book and then sends e-mails to everyone in your address book but picks one of the names as the sender. So you do not see which compu...

Find out what type of controller they have on it. Is it a kiln sitter, then the answer is No. If it is a digital controller then the chance is good. Do you know what model Skutt kiln they have? If it is a KM model, it has a KilnMaster Controller on it and that has a ramp hold mode which will allow y...

Ruth,
I am not sure what a Sierra 8" kiln is. Are the elements in a grove in fire brick or are they embeded into Fiber. If they are in fiber like the kilns that they sell for PCM they do not get coated.

One of the things that you should consider is how it is loaded. Do you want a top loader? A front loader? The octagons are more cost effectient but you loose a lot of space in them. A 15 inch octagon will not allow you to do a 15" square piece. I have an octagon top loader and a square front lo...

ernie, I have gotten different answers when I talked to different manufactures about it. I was at an Open House for a distributor and someone selling PMC and also a fiber kiln were there. The person said that the kiln was designed by the same person that designed the SC2 from Paragon. (The person le...

With the deep plastic tub,, you can cut a "U" shape out of the front to make it easier to work with. This technique can also be used for grinders, ect.

DB, Your pryometer is probally fine. If you have never used that kiln before you will find that since it is small the inside air heats up very quickly. The glass does not heat up as quickly so it takes more time to heat up. The glass still moves at the same temp. So, you will have to adjust your pro...

I recently had to set up a new L and L kilnfor someone. Once I got it set up and turned on, the controller read 121. Now, I know it is warmer in Florida, where I was at the time but it was not that hot. I called the manufacturer and asked what was up with the temp reading. I was told that they set v...

Does thick fiber board (the hard one).....

Create a lot of smoke around 1000 F till it burns off the contaminates?

Someone gave me a board that they said they thought was the 1 inch thick hard fiberboard. It was putting out so much smoke at 1100 F that I turned it off as I was disconnecting the smoke detector.

I do not live in Fla but I come down there a lot to visit. Especially around craft shows.

From an idea that I got from "Famous" Marty, I have been working with a manufacturer designing a strip cutter. He has a tool that has a bar that is long enough for the glass sheet to go under. I told him about a strip cutter that I saw at Marty's that then slides along the bar and then cut...
