At My Wits End - Part Two
Well, I gave it another go and tried a couple of new things. This time I put talc on a properly prepared and dried shelf. I laid two strips of single strength ( 3/32" ) on the shelf and ran a straight edge across them to level the talc and make it an even thickness. Then I placed a 14" cir...

I went down slow from 1675° to 1050° because I didn't know how fast my kiln cooled off and it really wouldn't hurt anything going slow. I held at 1050° for an hour and a half because I wanted to make sure the temperature had equalized. And I started annealing at 1050° cause I was just being safe...

At My Wits End
I love making pot melts, but every once and a while one would break on me or I would get some crazing in the surface. If I tried to re-fuse it , it would usually crack in half before I got to 500°. I used to fire in an old ceramic kiln with a manual controller. (A knob that went from 1 thru 10) I h...

Rampmaster 2 Help Needed
I got my new kiln last Saturday, a big ol evenheat GTS 2541-13 with dual viewing windows and the hand held Rampmaster 2 controller. :D I got it set up and did the suggested firing, 500° per hour to 1500°, then off. Monday I did my first firing and everything went OK, except for the four hours it t...

Does anyone out there use the Kiln Interface Software System ?
Do you like it ?
Is it easy to use?
Are there other interface systems that work with the Rampmaster II?

Yes, they're called bails. They are shaped like a leaf with a loop on top. I got mine from Stained Glass Warehouse. Althought I just tried their site and couldn't access it. Ed Hoy's recently started selling them too but they're not listed in their main catalog. The numbers are #48430 for small and ...

Adding A Rim
I made an interesting pot melt yesterday and after I grind it round, I want to add a one and a half inch rim to it. Can I just cut two rims, stack them on top of each other, put them around the center piece and fuse together? OR do I have to cut a large circle to put underneath the center piece and ...

Getting OUT Of A Gallery
This past spring I got accepted into a gallery. The first weekend my work was there they sold two pieces and a few weeks later sold another small piece. Since then they haven't sold a thing. It's a small CO-OP gallery. I didn't have to join, they let me in on consignment. They aren't in the best loc...

Repairing Odd Shaped Piece Of Glass
A friend came to me this weekend with a request. He has a fairly valuable insulator but it has a couple of large cracks in it which reduces the value significantly. The picture below isn't the exact piece but shows the type of damage I'm talking about. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/74dodge@sbcglo...

Adjusting Your Chicago Tile Saw Part Four
The water flow wasn't correct on my saw either. The tubes were too far away from the blade. http://users.wi.net/~magnum/Saw/5.JPG Remove the screw that holds the " Y " shape piece. Slide the two tubes forward until they are almost touching. Then drill a new hole and re-install a new screw ...
