Re: Sandblasting query

Thanks Greg, I will try the primer spray on the back to see if that helps.

Sandblasting query

Hi I recently invested in a sandblaster and am addicted. I would like to sandblast a design on a piece of glass (either float or very light bullseye) to use as a splashback for the hob in the kitchen. I have searched the internet for ways to attach it to the wall and realise the background needs to ...

Re: To pop or not?

Thanks for your comments and advice. The bubble squeeze was 30 mins at 1250F and I have never had a problem before which was why I was so confused and posted the question. I think Jim is right about the stringers causing the problem as after reading his post I checked the bubbles on the back in rela...

To pop or not?

Hi all I've made two plate blanks and have ended up with bubbles in both, the smaller being the worst. I think I made a basic mistake of not drying the glass properly after cleaning them as I followed the bullseye schedule for plates under 50cm, to the number and have not had this issue before. I ha...

Bullseye schedules

Hi all, I am going to have a go at fusing some coarse frit in Kaiser board molds to create pattern bars. My bars will end up 10cm x 4cm x 4cm. Is there a way I can calculate the fusing schedule for these size pieces as I will be firing 12 of them and don't want to mess it up. I have never done anyth...

Re: Spilt glass

Hiya Thank you for all the replies and help. I will do as instructed - probably not brave enough to do the water squirt bit tho, so will see how much is left after the next full fuse. Just putting on the fusing program - although now I think about I don't know if it was cracked when I opened it as I...

Re: Spilt glass

Hi Kevin Sorry to be thick but this is the first time I have tried a piece of glass thicker than 6mm. So I am not put off trying again, why would thermal shock have caused the glass to break and throw it over to the elements when I had not opened the kiln until it reached it full fuse time. I only o...

Re: Spilt glass

Hi Steve

Yes I lost the plot and just turned off the kiln in disgust. If I cut up the pieces and then anneal them properly, does that work or should I just bin it?

and Dave

I have no idea how the glass jumped across the gap as I had not touched it before the photo was taken.

Spilt glass

Hiya I tried a bullseye method of making a slab block but forgot to reinforce the walls. The glass spilled over and as you can see from the pic, the glass went onto the element, and the main body of glass has cracked. Two questions. Can I use the kiln even though there is a small amount on glass on ...

Re: Buying a lap grinder for UK?

Thanks for the reply Jen

I spoke to an electrician in the end and it was far too complicated to buy a US version so have bought a UK volt version. Will have to wait 2 months for it to arrive though. Still patience is a virtue I believe.

Best wishes
Tracey

Buying a lap grinder for UK?

Hi I am interested in buying a lap grinder and live in the UK. I haven't made up my mind between the CrystalMaster Pro and Glastar B12, but wanted to know if I bought a US version, would I be able to use it with my transformer I have for my Taurus Ringsaw I also bought from the US? I know nothing ab...

Re: Graphics

I did a course locally on this method with Helen Slater who uses this method in her work. It was back in February so my memory is a bit off but I think she mixes silica with the plaster when making the mold it should last several firings. We used black and coloured fine frits to fill the carving and...

Re: Is this devit?

Thank you for the replies, I will buy some devit fluid and try it. The worst of it is around the edges of the rectangles, as though its the sides of the coloured glass that have flattened in firing and devitrified. The bit you identified David is a reflection though as that rectangle is fine. Thanks...

Is this devit?

Hi all I've made a plate ready for slumping but have found marks on some of the colours of the glass. Its two layer white BE with 1.2 colours laid ontop and fully fused slowly. The discolouring only seems to be on some of the opal colours, like dark plum, one of the purples (don't know which), orang...
