Wall clock - how to hang

Hi, Could you please let me know how to hang a wall clock..? The glass is 3mm 1/8th float. Size 20x20 cm 8" square. I bought 3 clock mechanisms several years ago. Never looked at the back, was convinced there would be some sort of slot to hook them onto a screw on the wall. But there isn't. Hav...

Re: calculating weight of glass for potmelts

Many thanks to you both. By the way, Gaffer specific gravity is 3.6 if anyone is using it.

Best wishes, seachange

calculating weight of glass for potmelts

Hi Could you please let me know the formula for calculating weight of glass for potmelts? I will be using BE, Gaffer and Blackwood (not together). Can calculate volume of a square and of a circle, but there was something of using this volume and the specific gravity of the glass...did this 10 years ...

Re: Firing Top and Sides, etc

Hi, my kiln has the same choices. Have been learning to do drop vases lately. Found the best combination in my kiln is 50% power on the top (kiln ceiling) plus 50% low sides. I like to test for best outcomes, so I did check all the other combos. It is very time consuming and takes a lot of glass :| ...

Re: Tall skinny vases- stability - how to display in gallery

Many, many thanks for all your answers, and apologies for my very late reply. Got ill, and couldn't focus my eyes on anything without getting badly dizzy. So glad to live at a time when audio books and radio podcasts are available. They rescued me from abismal boredom. In the meantime, my husband gr...

Re: Tall skinny vases- stability - how to display in gallery

Museum gel: https://www.amazon.com/Ready-America-33111-Museum-Clear/dp/B0002V37XY That's the product, thanks Brad. I still cannot think of a way to display the vases unless I attach them with museum gel to a square of glass. Specially after reading through the comments in Amazon, somebody says to b...

Tall skinny vases- stability - how to display in gallery

Hi I am back with another query regarding drop vases. Now that I am successfully making a few - thanks to all your help - need your advice regarding how to display them in a retail gallery so they are stable. The vases are tall and skinny (using the small BE drop mold). The base is flat - I get them...

Re: drop vases - color density problems - thank you

Hi again returning to say thank you to all who helped me with my problems. By jolting me into having a new look at my firing schedules, by showing other options. And to ejgiebel for such a comprehensive reply, full of good tips. Followed your suggestions for the blank. Included a good bubble squeeze...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

Many thanks Jim Very colorful and very different, will keep the picture and firing references for the future, definitely something to try. Happy you found the picture :D I am making a bit of progress, mainly by changing which coils I am using for the firing, it seems to be working much better. Do no...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

Hi Jim Yes,would love to, if it is not too much trouble to find the picture. Do you remember the vase as being attractive, something you would like to do more off? Just spent the whole afternoon looking for a firing schedule for a drop vase I had used in my first tests, in 2012. Still have it, ruine...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

there is a thread on how to make a drop vase with only one firing. The other jim Thanks Jim. I have printed a post from Tony Serviente from 2004, but has no details on firing schedules. It mentions that he used to do lots of vases at the same time, 4 layers, without prefusing the blanks...which I m...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

I have taken Amanda's class, you'll learn a lot from her. I've made a lot of these since that class about 15 months ago. Many thanks for the encouragement, I am looking forward to it. It is a long, long time till then. I have to agree that was probably too high of a temp, especially with black, sin...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

Thanks Kevin I only want to make drop vases at present - only have till the end of august to experiment and play, then the season starts again, so need to concentrate on one thing, with the hope of achieving some decent results. They are not happening yet (the decent results) but your reply made me ...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

Hi Kevin Thanks for your reply. Unless I have it wrong, I think I am following the rules of thumb for the thickness, 4 layers of 3mm glass for a 6" drop. Because of the size of the hole in the mold I reduced the drop to 5". From previous vases where I have removed the rim, the thickness at...

drop vases - color density problems

Hi, I am trying to make a black/white drop vase as a gift. The blank is 4 layers of 3mm BE glass, 5" square, starting on the shelf: Tekta clear white tekta clear alternating strips of black and white. Fully fused to 804C 1480F. Due to the full fuse and no dams the blank spread out to 6 1/4"...

Re: tack fusing 4 layers 3mm without dams to keep the volume

(2) Some time ago there was a project in the Warmglass online gallery (miss it so) that was created in one, combined firing for tack fuse and drop ring. There was not very much discussion about the process except that it was a real challenge. It would seem to this less than expert fuser that heatin...

Re: tack fusing 4 layers 3mm without dams to keep the volume

Hi Jerry Thank you for your reply. I hadn't thought of ceramaguard (have read about it but never used it). The reason why I'd like to avoid using dams if at all possible is less set up time. No fiber paper strips, no kiln washing of all side surfaces. I have a coffin type kiln, with a 1" harden...

Re: tack fusing 4 layers 3mm without dams to keep the volume

Thanks Kevin for your reply. Having made a few test vases (most came out good), I am trying to make more a bit faster. The actual drop process is not a problem, I can program the kiln to be ready for me to start watching the drop when I get up in the morning, and I don't mind doing this part one by ...
