Re: Lamp worked rondels and other 2D forms

I'm late to this conversation but wanted to add to it. :) Yes, you can easily create round 2" pieces in the torch to add to stained glass. You need to use a Cabachon madrel like this one: http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL2147/2908260/24722945/412539733.jpg It's just a disc welded onto a mandrel...

Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

Hi Kevin! I've always loved your work also, I use the dish you sent me long ago every day. :) If I had known the Magless was going to be so small this year I would have dusted off my glass, torch and kiln. I remember a time when it would take me a couple months to get enough pieces made to send in. ...

Re: 2016 Magless Exchange

As someone that was there for the first exchange it's very sad to see this exchange dying off.  I haven't done any glass work in the last couple years so I haven't participated. I was just coming to see the pics of this years exchange. Wish I had checked sooner, with so few people I would...

Re: I Love Christmas in March!

Thank you all for participating this year! I love my box of magless! I'm so glad I didn't drop out when I thought I wouldn't be able to get anything made and sent. Thanks Sue and Barbara for keeping me going. ((hugs)) (Charles Hall...YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS! HAHA) =D> :...

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

Hi Jim, I was hoping you signed up this year but totally understand why you didn't. Sounds like you've been quite busy. You need to be displaying your gorgeous work! But, I have you beat on the kiln issue. :D This was the first time mine has been fired since last year's exchange. I hope you c...

Re: List of Received How Tos

Is it too late to send mine in? I just need to take a couple pics.

If it's not too late then what format do you want them in? I can send PDF, doc or docx.

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

Thanks Dana :D Is it silly that I woke up this morning, went out to check the kiln, and suddenly thought "Hey, I think it's sorting day!" Just newbie excitement? I simply cannot wait to see each beautiful piece and learn from everyone's experiences! It's not silly or just newbie excitement...

I was able to send in a piece ... yay! Sorry but It has a bit of a devit issue but I didn't think it bad enough to not send them in. I just want to add ... Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

Thanks Susan,

I'll try but I can't promise anything. I generally spend 3-4 weeks on the lampworked components alone. I'll see if I can maybe come up with something a little less detailed than I had planned for this year. I won't have a lot of fusing tips to pass on though.

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

Hi everyone. I regretfully have to withdraw from this year’s exchange. :( I caught a really nasty bug right after the first of the year and just can’t seem to get back on my feet. :-& I know there is still almost 5 weeks left before the due date but I can’t see me feeling well enough to be able ...

I may be way off here but do they make different grades of Mapp?

Sounds like there may be something in the tank or in the gas itself that is causing this reaction, especially since you are not getting the same reaction with the smaller tank.

I’ve done this in the torch with beads and Bert is right, the core has to be molten. The outside crackles but the core stays hot enough that the glass doesn’t shatter apart. I was actually surprised at how long you could leave it in the water though. Then you pop it back in the torch to reheat t...

Charlie,

That piece is absolutely stunning. The contrast of the blue next to the gold irridized seems to draw you into the center of the piece.

I really like the contrast of the part matte/ part glossy finish on yours and Tony’s piece.

Welcome, If scratches are a big concern how about doing a somewhat matted finish like Tony does on his black edges? Don’t know what you would call it … maybe a semi-gloss. Haha He blast and then brings it back up just enough to get a gorgeous finish. To me it almost looks like leather. I’m sur...

I really like the effect of the PB, gives it just a touch of color but adds a great deal of interest. Very nice.

I’ve never used that type of plaster so I really can not comment on it. I would think that if a commercial slumper is not available in that size then it might be best to contact someone in your area that does pottery that can throw a bowl that size (not sure about a flat rim but want to say that a...

The bubble could be caused by the vent holes in your mold being clogged with kiln wash. After applying the wash be sure that the tiny holes are not filled in, if they are then use a thin wire or tip of a toothpick to reopen the holes. The holes are needed for the air to escape out of the bottom sinc...
