sgraffito

For any of you who do sgraffito, do you use powdered frit or paint. If you use frit do you mix it with aloe to paint it on. I was taught years and years ago but have completely forgotten. Thank you for any help.

Re: calculating the amount of glass for a mold

Oh thank you that sounds simple, I was overwhelmed with some people’s math solutions. How can you do a test before the big piece, if you can’t use the mold? My mold isn’t too big though.

calculating the amount of glass for a mold

Hello, I am thinking of buying a small female torso mold, but have no idea how to go about calculating how much glass to use to fill it. Nor do I know if I should use small glass pieces or frit, ( coarse, medium or fine? ) in other words I don't know anything at all really!!! Can someone advise me. ...

glassline paint and powdered frit

I have question. I normally "paint" with powdered frit and was wanting to paint with glassline paints and powdered frit together. Can I layer the frit on top of the paint, or layer it on a separate piece of glass then fuse together at the end which would seem to be the best way. The questi...

Murrine mold

Hello, I bought a murrini mold from Delphi, it has six shallow troughs about 6 in long which I want to fill with stringers and or frit, however I suppose a kiln cast schedule may work but as it is not very deep I am not sure what firing schedule to use. Has anyone ever used this mold. http://www.del...

Irid Plate

I wanted to make an irid plate, irid side down, but I wanted part of the plate to have a texture, so that part of the plate would be on fiber paper. Should I fuse that part first, then put the other side together with it, as it will not be even on the kiln shelf. Trouble is it is in the middle of th...

copper wire turning black

Is there a spray to use to keep the copper wire looking like copper after I have fired it. I like to make masks with copper coming out of the glass for beads. When I look at other artists' work their copper looks like copper, mine looks black even after wire brushing it does not look wonderful. Is t...

Re: firing schedules for powder enamels on large pieces

Thank you for your advice on the enamels, I did not know that and will look into Kaiser. However I am still not clear on a firing schedule, do you go fast or slow, or is it the same as if you just used glass with no paint? The ASAP with the small pieces and Thompson enamel has me confused. Thanks ag...
