Griz: What do you mean by Fused Glass Patterns? Like stained glass patterns but that you can fuse together? What kind of stuff are you trying to make? Does anyone even make such things guys? If that's what they are then I suppose you could just take some stained glass pattens and jerry-rig them to w...

I'm very committed to CBS as well; it's all I use and all I sell currently, but it never hurts to test new things. I have tried DichroMagic and Savoy but don't use or carry them because of consistant quantity or quality issues (nobody get mad now). I haven't tried GM (Navitar) in awhile so I just em...

New Manufacturer of Dichro?

About two weeks ago someone called me and asked if they could send me some samples of dichroic glass; they are a new manufacturer. I haven't gotten it yet but thought I'd ask if anyone else has heard of this? Unfortunately, I didn't get any contact info for them.... figured it would come with the sa...

Kate:

There are two sizes of blades for the ring saw so get the smaller one for jewelry if you haven't already.

A little late but I wanted to chime in on consignment. I sell via consignment to a few places; mostly museum gift shops or non-profit galleries. My consignement customers are some of my best. I don't do consignment as a rule with regular craft shops (but there are exceptions). I do 60/40 as a rule a...

For the first time I have to hire help as well. My husband can't go because the show is the first week of school and my little one will be in 2nd grade. We're getting a larger booth this year and if I have help I can actually walk the floor and shop for our gallery too. I've asked my assistant to go...

I usually do my full fusing of the blank first and then cut out with the ring saw. Then I fire polish. This keeps the shape perfectly. Not sure if this will work for you since you need to fire it with the ashes in place but you might be able to work out a design where you leave a space to add ashes ...

Rodney: Why don't you use wallpaper paste? If you go to the casting section and follow some of the links in the posts you'll find several casters who use wallpaper paste instead of pate de verre glue. I have never tried it but it seems to me that if you're having such a hard time with the glue, this...

It is standard business practice (at least in the US) to add shipping and handling cost to the invoice when sending work to a gallery.... or to a retail customer for that matter. I charge 5% of the order for shipping and handling and have not had any complaints. On large orders where 5% is WAYYYYYY ...

old fuser new to dichro has question

Hello Candy: I may repeat something someone else said, if so, forgive me but here goes: Capping: ======= WHEN I cap with clear I use 3mm because it gives a larger volumn of glass thus giving you more depth in the piece. It also encourages the piece to round up very nicely. The clear should be slight...

copper or brass forms

Hi Terry: You can get them out again if you kiln wash them but you can also buy a variety of molds that are re-uable for quite a long time. Stainless steel molds are great. You can also use found things like cans, clay flower pots (unglazed) or make a form out of clay and then make a plaster (or oth...

Magnets

There was a thread quite a while ago about magnets that listed sources. Check out the archives. You can also get strong, round ones at Staples and Home Depot. They are pricier than need be but in a pinch, and to get started, they are fine.

Reusche Paints & Screening Medium?

Thanks Avery. I won't be silkscreening. What I want to do is to use the paint just the way I would when I paint with oil paint or watercolor on canvas or paper, only do it on glass. I'll also be building up the 'painting' with frit and stringer but want to use the Reusche for the underpainting or bo...

Reusche Paints & Screening Medium?

I've just started to use some of these paints and received the screening medium yesterday. I opened it and read the Material Safety Data Sheet and was a bit concerned about using this stuff. It's 65/241 Screening Medium. I wondered if anyone else uses this stuff and what your experiences were OR if ...

I leave my kilns on and go about my business, although I leave the building and sometimes even go to sleep I don't leave the property. My studio is in the converted barn which is next to the house. I have an alarm system that includes smoke detectors. I keep fire extinguishers near my desk as well. ...

Glass Compatibility?

This is a hot glass question but does overlap a little.... the local high school has a glass blowing program and the teacher stopped by to ask if I can help them get some glass as they ran out of glass and money <smile>. He said that is doesn't matter what the COE is as he melts it all together in t...
