I saw work by a NW artist in a fine arts gallery in Oregon (on the coast) who is actually fusing porcelain inside glass. It was interesting. No cracks at all. I left the gallery puzzled.

candle wax. I bought a bag of those cheapo votives in the tin cups. Throw the cup away and rub the wax over your marks. Works well and less slippery than vaseline or chaptick (tried them both!)

Do any of you use borax on the pendants? Tom Thanks for the reply Tom, I don't. I fuse big blanks with fiber paper, cut in the tile saw, dump in water immediately, rinse and scrub, back into clean water. Take them out of the water and ry them with a clean cloth just before firing on kiln washed she...

Kim, I don't have the shelf in my kiln when slumping. All you need are some kiln posts to elevate your slumping mold a bit so air circulates beneath it.

I have slumped the 4mm thick glass. While it isn't as weighty, if you aren't full fusing it first, it won't pull in/up and shouldn't look too bad. It isn't optimal, but it can work.

Just because I am in the mood to be a devil's advocate here... If my work is on consignment in a gallery and they sell the piece for me, do I have any control over where it goes? Isn't it possible that a shop could purchase that work and sell it again elsewhere? How is the shop selling my ...

Try using fiber paper cut in thin strips instead of the copper. If you search in the archives of the old board on holes and on this board, you should find plenty of posts on fusing with holes for beads.

While I have seen that some of the galleries hosting shows assume no responsibilities for displayed art, I have not encountered that in a gallery that accepts work on consignment. I would say that if a gallery can't afford to insure my work when it is in their space, it probably isn't likely to be a...

Maybe after seeing if the pieces aren't up, make an appointment to talk with the new owner. Could be that she was overwhelmed with all that taking over the gallery entailed. Could be that she doesn't "understand " your work and will feel more comfortable with it once she has had a chance t...

That's a nice sander Ron, Linda, if you go the pump option make sure the pump is off the bottom enough so that it doesn't suck the silt through your pump if you decide to recycle the water. Your pump may not like glass paticles. :) John, you should look through the archives for Ron's series on this...

I have checked out this work on ebay. Interestingly enough the vendor, Buyartisans has only been on ebay for a few months. Not one of the fused glass pieces posted has ever sold. The same pieces have been posted more than once at the same price. They do seem to be overpriced, particularly given the ...

the other thing Melanie is that the sucessful firing was with cathedral glass and the unsuccessful with opals. My guess is that if you had fired slower, soaked longer on the slump with the opals, you would have filled the mold out the first time. Opals are harder than cathedrals, so it would probabl...
