Re: Pot Melting

You might have better color control, but still get a look similar to a pot melt, by melting through an SS grate instead.

Re: Feline Casting -- WIP

Thanks. I was going for a stylized Art Deco feel, but agree she's decidedly Egyptian. It's not BE. It's leftover Spectrum. The block is clear, the cat face and tail are a subtle lavender irrid frit and the tips of the ears, nose and tail are a darker purple frit that is a lot finer. I don't have the...

History of Fused Glass

I'm helping my friend's daughter with a school project and would like to point her to some historical information regarding fused glass. I've done some online searchng (this website also) and only came up with one reference for her. If one of you happen to know of a website or two that explains the ...

Hi Bev,

I've had some success with an autobody shop sand blasting pieces for me when they're doing other stuff anyway. My experience is that they curious as to what I'm doing and charge me very little.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the support guys . . . As soon as Taurus replaces my ring saw blade as promised, I think I'll cut it with that. Maybe it's just too much pressure that it's someone else's glass. I appreciate you guys won't tell on me!! Baroque joke of the day (from my hubby's tee shirt): Ques: What is...

Cutting Spectrum Baroque - total frustration

I'm trying to cut spectrum steel blue baroque into long pieces for a project. Problem is, my score seems fine, but my cut tends to just curve off along with the steel gray swirls in the glass. I've made sure to keep my cutter straight, I'm using the morton system, applying even, but gentle pressue. ...

Hi Vidrio,

So, you're in Costa Rica? Where are you? I've thought of coming to Costa Rica myself. What kind of access to glass and supplies do you have?

Judy -
What section of Michaels are you finding Pearl Ex. I'd like to pick some up, but the clerks here usually have no idea what I'm talking about - is it w/paints?

Jackie, That's interesting that you mention family and friends tend to go for the representational stuff. My husband is a pencil artist that strives for photo-realism and tends to have a similiar preference in glass. In any event, keep pushing. I suggest you start making some contacts with interior ...

Jackie - There's no doubt why you're getting so many posts -- you're work is awesome. I'm curious, you say you've been fusing for only 9 months - what were you doing prior to that? You seem very advanced! My comment is that I like the way you have created a cohesive body of work. They are all differ...

Amazon.com sells a book dedicated to your request. If you go to the ebay site, you will find tons of information, tutorials, etc. Only bad thing about ebay is items tend to sell for under-value (check our archives on this).

Good luck.

Use kiln posts w/cut kiln shelf pieces. (I got mine at C&R LOO) I wish I could draw this out, but think of the parallel bars we used to play on in elementary school.

Go as large as your budget allows. Even though you only want to do 10"x10" pieces now, later you'll want to go bigger. BobB Boy, isn't that the truth? I can't believe how quickly I outgrew my kiln. Just a little side note: If you happen to be looking at a Skutt Hotstart, it's a great litt...

Hi Gabriel, I'd like to see some of your greenhouses to get an idea of the scale. I think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to weld two flat panels together due to thermal shock - but others on the board may have some ideas for you in that regard. You should be able to create flat panels of ...

Check Michael's craft store. I think you can find the paint for the back that makes the mirror. I think it's called silvering, but I'm not sure.

Hi Susan, Why not fuse your pendants and then in a second firing, tack fuse your lamp-worked elements? Use a schedule just hotter than fire polishing and you shouldn't lose the shape of the pendent at all. Seems risky to me to add lamp-worked elements on the fly . . . I don't understand how your lam...

I use a dremel tool with diamond tip. I place the piece in bowl or platter with a bit of water and drill away. I understand this is probably not the most efficient way for use in production, but, it's working for me.
