Fusing went funky

I'm stumped. Have been trying different fusing schedules with my new kiln and am beginning to feel I don't know anything about fusing. I've had some real unhappy results. The latest: A elongated, rectangle 14" long, 4 1/4" at one end and 6 1/2" at the other. It's a mask comprised of a...

I had been told by another fuser that you had to fuse frit (powder and fine) at about 1385 or it would literally burn off some of it, thus losing some of the design. I am glad that you and Jerry have set me straight on that. Thanks to you both

Thanks so much for the additional information. If I understand you correctly the glass, in effect, sealed off the lower area hence a bubble where the steam couldn't escape. Thanks also regarding a different temp.

Firing frit & layers

I am hoping some of the experts out there can help me with this question. I have a piece (about 10" long and 5" wide) that is a clear, thin base; 2nd layer of opaque pieces ( covers most of the base) with stringers and frit on it. My understanding is in firing frit it burns off at the high...

Jo, I did wonder about elevating the mold. I didn't, but will next time. Ron, thanks for your advice on the lower temp. I can't wait to try again and this time I'll use the Bullseye wash. Thanks to much. I live in an area that is not only hard to get supplies easily, but also to find others who are ...

Bubbled glass during slump

I've been fusing about 1 year with relative success until this last week I fused a 15" round, blk, dbl rolled piece with just a few geometric designs (opaque, dbl rolled) and some stringer. The fusing went fine, but when I slumped it, it bubbled where the bottom should have been. When I say bub...

I finally purchsed thinfire paper from another supplier. Absolutely do not like the stuff, however, it is my understanding that it is all that is available now.
