Lots of luck with these difficult tools, molds and kiln wash.
If you want some kiln paper I will gladly send it to you because I have it.

Re: kiln wash residue

Hi Michael.
What are the floor dimensions of your kiln(s)?
Kiln paper comes 5" by 5".
10" by 10".
20.5" by 20.5".
Looks like rolls could be problematic to ship vs large flat envelope.
Flat is easiest, USPS international.

Re: kiln wash residue

Hi again Michael. Can you find good sandpaper? Can you receive packages? Perhaps I can send fiber paper for some of the kiln shelf problems after shelves are sanded level. Paper is light weight so postage should be cheap enough if customs fee isn't too expensive. I will try to check post office info...

Re: kiln wash residue

First try scrubbing to get the kiln wash off. If that does not work then sandblasting should work. You will have a matte finish. Placing the bowl back in mold will not fire polish the back uniformly if at all. Lots of luck. We hope all is well with you, and that some sense of normal is slowly coming...

Check with Kingsley North. I bought their small drill press years ago and love that size, and their many diamond bits.

Re: sanding edges of drilled holes

Hi again. Do you have a good bead store where you live? They almost certainly have an account with Beadsmith and can get you a manual reamer (~$22.) or an electric reamer, (~$34.) The different diamond coated reamer bits are included. One is 45° angle coated round bit. Looks like tiny sharp pointed ...

Re: sanding edges of drilled holes

Just my paranoia about breakage, but running your pieces back thru a kiln firing is so much stronger. And I get no returns on jewelry with a well annealed hole.

Re: what to do about new kiln

I am so sorry that you are having so much trouble with your not-new-kiln.
This should be a fun time, not discouraging.
I wish you luck.
And I hope you receive a NEW kiln.

I really really like my Evenheat kiln, which is 14.5" square, but may not be deep enough for your work @ just 7".
Just a suggestion.
Good luck.
