Re: Art 101 Gallery in Wooster/Medina Ohio?

Hmmm... I do shows in Ohio and I know some of these artists. The ones I know are impeccable in their work, I'm going to find out what they think of it & I'll post back

Re: wholesalecrafts.com

I did the very first show WSC in Las Vegas. First shows are never good (and I knew this) but it really taught me some lessons about wholesale and I'm glad I went. There were very few buyers at that show, but I got some accounts, but nothing fantastic and some of the galleries have gone out of busine...

I would compare it to firing wine bottles, lots of people do it, it's not an original idea. Some add wire hooks, some decoupage the labels back on, some put on bumpons, etc.

That's great, I just ordered some.... it's really expensive, too. I hate the texture part of it, but it sounded so great to not have thinfire or kilnwash to deal with.... too good to be true?

Thanks for posting your results, Marty.

I teach fusing to kids all the time- one thing to remember is that the tools are made too big for most kids hands younger than about 3rd grade- (I wish they'd make glass tools for kids, but I suppose that's an oxymoron of sorts) For older kids it's helpful to have lots of gallon size ziplock bags th...

I've purchased methyl cellulose powder from art supply stores- mix to whatever consistency you like- it's used to thicken the water for marblizing paper... also used for stage blood since it coagulates so nicely. I've not tried the powdered form for glass, but the Klyr-fire works best for me when it...

Barbara- That was my first kiln too- and I loved it until about a month ago when I finally killed it for good- I had just finished some little pieces, and unpluged the kiln (so I thought)... Three hours later, and after I went out to lunch with a friend, I returned to a weird smell- Turns out that I...

Tess, I have an 18" Jen-Ken in my small studio-(ground level) it doesn't really change the room temp. much at all unless I'm firing it over and over- I also have an oval kiln that does heat up the room- feels good in the winter! If your kiln is in the basement I doubt that you'll have a heat pr...

Do you know any other fusers in your area? Sometimes it helps just to have someone else around for support on your first firing- even if all they do is sit there! When I first got my kiln, my husband very quietly walked up behind me, set the fire extinguisher at my feet, kissed the top of my head, a...

I have some of the glass you're talking about- it starts out nearly white then turns almost a flamingo pink- If it's in small scraps to start with, it can be really hard to tell that it isn't white- I keep a piece of "real white" out so that students can compare it to the scraps they find....

I have these tables and I love them- I sandbag the bottoms when I do outdoor shows to make them more stable in the highest postition- there is a bar that connects the lower part of the legs front to back- sandbag fits right over that. They are extremely light to carry but still sturdy.

Thanks for all the help & those who emailed me off the board, too. One more question... why do ceramic decals work better than ones made for glass? This all reminds me of building pinewood derby cars- (ghost from the past)

Decal Question

I was asked to make 500 keychains as mini prizes for a triathalon- I will need to use decals to put their logo on them- I've never used decals on glass before, but I see that you can custom order them from Wale Apparatus- Anyone have any great tips or experience with the fire on decals? -not such a ...

I would be one of those who has spent $$$ for professional slides that are not what I had hoped. Your jury slides will make you or break you, so they have to make your work stand out above the others. At most of my shows, the jewelry category is the most competitive to get into. I would definitely a...

Sunflower, Middle school art teachers are among the bravest of the brave!... I've had success fusing with kids as young as 3 (has to be the right kind of kid, though) I think pre-teen kids are the perfect age- Email me if you'd like & maybe I can help you out.

I don't wear glasses either, but maybe I misunderstood the catalog listing... I was thinking the Aura bifocals were just split lenses with 2 degrees of protection- look straight on and get the most, glance up and get a lesser protection, more viewable color, etc.
Sounded really good to me!

I agree with Brock's sentiment about buying tools before knowing how their use will benefit you....I bought a Taurus saw a year ago and I hate it. I thought I would use it for all kinds of things, (and that I needed it because it is a cool tool and I didn't have one) It is a great saw, some people I...
