Hi Renee. Most 120V circuits are wired with either 14 guage copper wire (good for 15amps) or 12 guage copper (good for 20 amps). With your kiln drawing 17 amps, you definately need a 20A circuit with 12ga wire. You also don't have much extra capacity, so I would not put anything else on the same cir...

Hi Linda. You should have received a manual with your kiln. Call Jen Ken and have them send you one if you don't have it already. The controller info is in the back of the manual. Even once you get it, its still a bit confusing. It has all sorts of preprogrammed stuff, but its all based on cones. I ...

Blast? Etch? Photo? Plot? … I’m so confused.
I’d like to make custom, fairly detailed patterns on dichroic, iridized, and mica coated glass. I’m leaning toward using a sand blaster and vinyl masks. Before I do anything too stupid (like reaching for my MasterCard) I’d like to get some feedback from the experts. So, if you’ll indulge me,...

Carpet
I just had my first art/craft show last weekend. Sales sucked (but they sucked for everyone else too). After reading the debate over wether or not to put carpet in you booth, I decided to give it a try (got a $30 area rug at Wal-Mart). Best I can tell, I was the only booth (out of 150 or so) to have...

Jerry (and other show planners): What is your objective for an art show? What is your measure of success (sales, volume of people, artistic quality of items)? Would you consider a show with 100 booths, each with a few high end pieces and no sales a success? Would you consider a show with 100 booths,...

Bert: Your info was r.e. compatibility testing. Since I've only used BE, I haven't been worried about compatibility. What I was concerned about (and I think Kitty is asking about) is testing for stress as a result of problems with anealing. I've read Lundstrom's book, and he shows two pieces - one p...

I've made several pattern bar pieces (see my www). While the pattern bar slices look awful right off the tile saw, they always fire polishing nicely. The only point were they sometimes do not fire polish well is where they have been in contact with shelf wash (which would be the edges of a PB slice)...

What you're looking for is called an inverter. An inverter converts 12VDC (power from auto battery) into 120VAC (like what comes out of your household outlets). Small to mid sized inverters are sold everywhere (I've seen them in grocery stores). Best deals are at a place like Best Buy. You'll need a...

Pot Melt with Iridized
What are the do's and dont's r.e. putting iridized glass in with a pot melt?
I know that fusing iridized to iridized doesn't work well. Will iridized in a pot melt also cause problems?

Its been kind of quiet here the last few days.
I really enjoy seeing other peoples work.
You can see my latest humble attempts at my www. They do look better in person than my feeble photos.

For the same wattage, a 240V device will be slightly more efficient than a 120V device. This is due to the 120V device drawing more amperage which means you also have more power loss in the wires leading to the device (kiln or whatever). The difference in efficiency will be very small and not someth...

Hi Vickie. I'm new to warm glass and I too have a Jen-Ken kiln. If you have the same controller that I do (Orton 12 key), then here's how to enter the firing schedule mentioned by Cindyj: Firing Schedule: Segment 1: 350 dph to 930, hold for 0:10 Segment 2: 300 dph to 1450, hold for 0:10 Segment 3: 2...
