Re: best glass for toppping

I use 3mm Tekta clear to cap all of my work. Bullseye also makes crystal clear Tekta, but the regular works well for me. Occasionally I find bubbles that I don't like and I will just drill them out and use the piece on a different layer of my work.

Re: New Studio - New Kiln

I have 2 Jen Ken Profusion 26 kilns. I bought them over 2 years ago and have had no problems. However, after the first firing one developed a small crack in the exterior side panel (only on the surface). They sent me patching material to fill the crack ( the same material as the fiber) and it's been...

Re: atmospheric

The sky color in the brown one, is BE 1137 medium amber. Yes, that is a pale figure in the green one. I used BE 1129 charcoal powder to make a soft silhouette. Thanks

sunset series

I want to share a couple of new frit paintings from a new series I have been working on, these are 10"x14"x1". The difference for me is that I used BE transparent powders instead of sifted fine frit for the sky colors. The frit wasn't giving me a soft enough blend. The powders took a ...

Re: ArtPrize

Thanks for the comments, I just returned from Grand Rapids MI. There was tons of fantastic art, not much warm glass, although here's a link to a fused glass finalist.

ArtPrize

For the first time I put a piece in ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, which is ending on Sunday. I thought I would share my entry (16"x22'X1"). What a crazy big exhibition that is! It's literally all over the city - 1536 artists in 174 different venues! I was excited to make it to the top 25 in th...

Re: more frit paintings

Colleen, These are LED edge lit panels. They plug into an outlet and use a transformer to step down to 12 volts. I use dimmers with them. They are rated for 50,000 to 70,000 hours, and this size (8x10) uses 2watts of electricity. You can get more info at my supplier luminousfilm.com. I just place th...

Re: more frit paintings

Thanks, The stands are a little clunky looking on this smaller work. I should find some with smaller diameter metal. I appreciate the photo comments, I am by no means a photographer ( I have one I can call if I need good pics). I have thought about lightboxes, but I like to see the satin polished, 1...

Don, they are about 1" thick, I use stands because I have LED light boards (8x10x.25) behind the glass.

I just finished a new group of smaller (8x10x1) frit paintings that I wanted to share. I'm focusing on the mood of the landscapes, as well as more detail.

first frit figure

I've been wanting to do figures in frit for a while, and decided to share my first result. I didn't want to do a black powder image, I wanted color. It took longer than I thought, but I can see some possibilities with it.

Re: Remake frit painting

I replaced the BE013 with BE113 (white opal) and it worked fine. I like the BE243 for snow, but it can't withstand the vitrograph temp. it turns partially clear. BTW I just returned from The Glass Weekend at Wheaton Arts in NJ today. My gallery sold this piece Sat. It was an amazing experience with ...

Re: Density of Spectravue white?

Have you considered BE 243? You will have to fire it, but it comes in 2mm or 3mm sheet. I use the frit regularly and I always backlight my work. The light passes through nicely.

New Frit Painting

Hi,
I wanted to share a new frit painting that's 16x22x1 and wall-mounted. I'm not sure the photo picked up the colors very well. They took a lot of firing to get intensity.

Re: Remake frit painting

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. It's validating to get encouragement from the glass community. Risa, my work was at Art Palm Beach last month with my gallery (unfortunately I wasn't there). They sold a large piece to someone they called a "major collector", whatever that means. I...

Remake frit painting

I just finished the remaking of a piece that I made last month. The initial piece had BE013 which developed stress after a number of firings. This piece has had 8 firings without stress, and without any BE013. The first one became a giveaway, and 5lbs. of BE013 became a throwaway. Live and learn.
