Re: Is Drackenfeld still around?

Bert, I'd like to be able to ask Albin a few questions, too. He left us far too early. Peter, thank you for the link to that great site. I look forward to taking a closer look at their products. They don't have anything called bistre brown but there is a 'Chocolate' that looks close. Don, thank you ...

Re: Is Drackenfeld still around?

Bert, I was just going by the label on the Bistre Brown container: E402, which Albin listed in his book, in Plate 1, as Drackenfeld. Perhaps way back when I got it Drackenfeld sourced it from Hancock? The example I found on-line, showed at the top of this thread, is a product sold by Reuche and bear...

Thanks, Jerry, however, it's available locally so the postage will probably be better than international shipping. Jen

Re: Working Deep : Bullseye Lesson

Tried to access this link, using Firefox, but it couldn't be found. Too bad, looked liked a useful link. Was it Graham Stone's book?. Firing Schedules for Glass http://www.warmglass.org/servlet/the-1553/Firing-Schedules-for-Glass/Detail may not help you with designing your layup, but the insights for...

Re: Is Drackenfeld still around?

Thanks Bert. It seems from the ad I found that Reusche's Bistre Brown 1110 is "Hancock Brown #7." I'm curious to know how the colour compares to the Drackenfeld bistre Brown. It looks really black in the ad I copied yet other colour charts showed it to be more brown. I guess I'll have to o...

Is Drackenfeld still around?

Am I right in thinking that Drackenfeld is no longer around? I am just using up the last of my Drackenfeld bistre brown E402 and when I bought a new lot of bistre brown I see it is Reusche 1110 and is described as Bistre Brown Glass enamel. I can't test it without opening the hermetically-sealed pac...

Thanks, Don. Now I have to do it again. Will run a controller/kiln test before I fire the next one. Jen

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

KaCe, here is a pic of the bistre brown and tracing black mixture so you can see the colour. I couldn't get it to post in the PM so hope it will post here. I've been able to post before so don't know what is happening with the PM. (Just one pic as the file would be too big to upload). This was still...

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

Thanks for that, Don. Yep, I do tend to use the pen for the type of fine detail you mention, especially outlining.

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

The 107's arrived and they're not what I was expecting. They are tiny little nibs compared to what I was using. They are larger than life in the website photo. I think the one Valerie recommended is an option. I found a couple of calligraphy nibs. I'll try those. The one I broke was like a regular di...

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

Thanks Don. I was hoping you'd have some input. Which sizes do you use please? I ordered two Hunt nibs yesterday. Both will be the same size I guess because size wasn't mentioned, just a part number, 107 which is the only one they carry. They should come in the mail tomorrow. As for the nib holder.....

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

Thanks for the info Valerie. I've found some others locally which I'll be able to get sooner. I may order one of the Hiro, too, especially if the local supplier has them.

I'll post a pic of those I found locally. Thanks again, Jen.

Re: Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

De Anza Art Glass Club, thank you so much for the heads up! As soon as I looked at the links you provided I realized that the local China Paints supplier would probably have what I need. I looked at their site and found pens for use in China painting with enamels and oils. They have nibs that look v...

Pen nib for drawing with stainers?

To complicate my life some more the pen and nib I have used since the dawn of time rolled off the light table and nose-dived into the concrete floor of the shop. (The python laughed.) The nib broke and the tip part disappeared so I don't have it for reference. I bought some nibs on line, none of whi...

Re: GB4 programming question

Thanks, Cynthia. I made sure it was in program mode. Having read on Craftweb that unplugging the controller can allow it to reset itself it's currently unplugged and I'll plug it back in when I go back into the workshop. I also received a PM suggesting I try connecting to one of the spare channels a...

GB4 programming question

My GB4 is not responding to the 'F1' command given when in program mode. I am attempting to cancel any remnants of a previous program so I can enter a new program. (I prefer to enter the program each time so there are no remnant steps left in the controller to work around.) With the controller in pr...

Re: Density of Spectravue white?

Pete, the samples arrived, very quickly, and as soon as I finish fiddling with artwork I'll unpack them. It was suggested to me that they won't stand the high temperature of soldering but would probably handle flux OK so could I fire the product after assembly. This isn't possible, of course. For a ...
