Re: Glass carving gun (abrasive blasting)
Thank you so much, Brad! I'll see if I can make contact. :D Bingo! After much searching with no luck I found another site that seems to be related and shows long-lasting tips. I haven't made actual contact yet as it's the weekend but I'll contact the vendor and report back in case it helps someone ...

Re: Glass carving gun (abrasive blasting)
Thank you for those suggestions, Kevin. It seems that Butch doesn't have her on-line store anymore. I checked the others, too. Although small tips (1/16" and 3/32") are available I couldn't find any info about the gun they were made for, Empire. There are local suppliers with small ceramic...

Re: Large Kiln Shelves, redux
Hi Buttercup! Unfortunately, my local supplier only stocks the Unifrax HD boards in 24" x 36". To special order a larger board was ridiculously expensive and I'd be stuck with massive quantities of HD board! #-o P.S. You didn't mention your winning lottery ticket numbers! I'm all ears! Tr...

How do you plan to lift it?
Edit: Oops, missed the 'light-as-a-feather' reference!
I like the HD fibre board. Do they come big enough for your project?

Glass carving gun (abrasive blasting)
I'm hoping someone can help me out with a brand name and specs. for a good sand carving gun. The excellent one I had in Canada didn't make it here. Possibly Border Security thought it was a weapon and we have really strict rules about those. Or maybe it just got nicked, anyway, I don't have it and w...

I have received confirmation from Fletcher-Terry that their #2 1/2 Diamond points will fit the DP 2 Point driver.

Red Devil DP2 Diamond points
I have an elderly Red Devil DP 2 Point setter (no, not the red flower). It's a little hand-operated tool for firing diamond-shaped fasteners into window frames or picture frames to secure the glass in place.Great tool. I no longer have the box the points came in so don't know what size to order. The...

Re: Alternative to Thinfire
@theanimallover, I use the 'powder' because it's easy, lasts multiple firings and I've not had it stick to the glass. That said, I mainly paint and fire. If it did happen to stick, I can't imagine under what scenario, it should brush or wash off (not into the house drains). I will definitely report ...

Re: Alternative to Thinfire
By the way, so there's no confusion, I use the alumina hydrate as is, in dry powder form. Put a 1/4" (+/-) layer on the kiln shelf and flatten it with a folded newspaper. ( What's that, you ask, no don't use the Guardian site on your laptop.) I use a piece of float glass, sometimes a rolling pi...

Re: Researching large kilns
Hi Bonnie, If you don't find what you want ready-made do you have access to the resources to build one? This thread contains pictures of a lid rebuild to replace the elements for a top-fired kiln, the rest is just a fibre-lined brick box held together with angle-iron rods and bolts. It was built for...

Re: Amended Challenge
Just stumbled across this 2004 thread. Does anyone know where I could find a link to the photos that, presumably, were posted on the WGB? There are a lot of names I recognize and would love to see their challenge work but can't read every post from 2004 on.
