Re: Trying to find an article/post on irid

Your post reminded me of a tutorial Barry Kaiser on his web site has where you fire two pieces of of dichroic glass face to face (generally a no no) and get interesting movement and pattern of glass. I know that's not what you are remembering but I thought I'd mention it just it case it was. Good lu...

Firing aborted; can I refire

I put a 3mm Bullseye screen-printed 3 1/2 in square piece in my Paragon Caldera to fire. Went full to 1050 with a 10 minute hold. Then my schedule is full to 1465. However, at about 1100 I looked through the peephole to see how the enamel was looking and saw black specks all over the piece and shelf...

Re: low tech screening

A couple of years ago I became interested in screen printing and started with the emulsion exposure method. I had help from the Tony Glander DVDs and also from Ted Bach. Unfortunately, I was successful only about 50% of the time. The most difficult part for me was getting a good exposure; I made sur...

Re: Need Australian night light base

Actually, I see I wasn't clear. I meant the electrical fixture that one can use to make a night light with a glass shade or front. I would imagine that obtaining one might not be worth the cost.

Need Australian night light base

Does anyone have an idea of where I could get a night light base that would work in Australia? I've done an Internet search but have come up with nothing so far.

Thanks,

Re: GlasTac not drying

My experience with GlasTac is that it takes hours to dry. I just got an email today from Bullseye stating that they have a new product, GlasTac Gel, and that one of the advantages is that, being thicker, it allows you to move your pieces.

Re: Are Bullseye Videos Lessons worth the expense?

My experience is that they certainly are worth $39 a year. I've watched most of them and some of them many times over. You can get an idea from the titles if you are interested in trying those techniques.

Re: jewelry pricing

I, too, want to see the price of an item. I'm slow to decide sometimes and don't want a salesperson standing there or chatting me up. I've long admired the jewelry in the Walt Disney Concert Hall store. Their jewelry (in cases) is generally priced from about $75 up but there's a tag hanging next to ...

Re: What do I put Bullseye transparent frit on?

Not at all. Don't hesitate to ask. The folks here are very generous with their time and patience. I've learned so much just reading through the posts. Because of family circumstances I can not travel outside my local area for classes and depend heavily on the generosity of those willing to share and...

Thanks, Don. I had good results when I was vacuuming with my shop vac. Then I was warned against it. I will go back to doing that.

Brass Night Light Spring Bracket

I noticed that Slumpy's sells night light brackets with solid brass spring brackets. Knowing how heavy a glass night light can be, it's hard to believe these are as good as the ones with the little screws and bolts.

Has anyone used these? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Kiln element dropping dust

Yes, I was wiping the inside with a cloth. But, I just read in the fusedglass.org ebook on Ending Fused Glass Disasters that they recommend using a vacuum very close to the top but without actually touching it. So, that's what I tried yesterday. Hope it helps. Also, I read somewhere that if the bric...

Re: Kiln element dropping dust

I have a Skutt Firebox and have been having the same problem--kiln debris and pins falling out. I can't tell if the debris is where the pins fell or not. I have not been able to get the pins back in. My glass dealer recommended that I NOT vacuum the top. Since my Kiln is in the garage I've wondered ...

Re: firing schedule BE

I do a lot of firing with enamel screen printing (kiln cured) on 3mm Tekta fired face down on 3mm glass. This might be overkill for you but this schedule has worked very well for me: 300 1100 45 50 1250 1.00 400 1460 12 full 900 1.00 100 700 off I put this schedule together from recommendations on t...

Re: Fire Polishing small jewelry pieces

I usually just use my grinder for small things like jewelry and fire polish afterwards. If they need a lot of work, e.g., changing the basic shape, it's good to start with a coarse grit and finish up with a finer grit head (220 or 600). In any case, drop the piece into water after grinding to keep g...
