Re: WORKING WITH LIQUID ENAMELS OR GLASS PAINTS

I don't know anything about Colorline enamels. But If you eventually use Brad's sunshine enamels and have problems please describe: 1. Which medium was used. e.g. Pine oil, Water miscible medium, Klyrfyre etc 2. Application method. I assume you are screen printing. Or are you rubber stamping? What i...

Re: Lamp worked rondels and other 2D forms

I just watched that video that TOB linked. Pretty cool. How much did it cost him to run that torch for seven minutes to make a foot for a goblet I wonder? There's probably more learning curve and infrastructure to managing the flameworking process than I have an appetite for. But Jen, yes, I'm still...

Re: Clouding on float and plate glass

The painted pieces didn't fog. They should have fogged. Maybe I cleaned them too well. No conclusions yet. Guess I'll try a piece that has only been cleaned with dish soap. If it doesn't fog, I'll find something more productive to worry about. Paint is an overglaze which provides a different surfac...

Re: Clouding on float and plate glass

I put some of the old plate glass back in the kiln with the program I used in the past: 600 dph to 1275°F. It didn't fog. It didn't have any paint on it though. I had cleaned one piece of it pretty well with Glass Plus, and noted which little end of it had been under putty in it's life. The other pi...

Clouding on float and plate glass

When I fire float and pre-float old plate glass over 1250F for any length of time, I sometimes get clouding. I thought it was tin bloom at first, not knowing what tin bloom is, but I figured since it was float, that I probably was enjoying tin bloom. Now that I've fired non-float old window glass an...

FLashed Stained Glass Breaking

Approaching off-topicivity here, but it's been slow so I'll go for it: In a glass discussion on Facebook some folks were discussing occasional breakage when firing sandblasted flashed glass. Particularly thick green. Particularly when the flash side is down on the shelf. I understand the contributin...

Re: melting frit to make a single piece of glass

Jen, maybe all the unused but loved and sheltered shards come together into one immense radiant biscuit tin of compatibility just before the moment of the great final event and creation of the new universe. I'd like to think so.

Re: melting frit to make a single piece of glass

Mine is mostly antique glass scraps in small crescent shapes that are hard to handle and of limited value in mosaics, which I don't want to make anyway. I've found that the best thing to do with glass like that is to sort it by color and store it in Rubbermaid bins. My children can then wonder the s...

Kathy Jordan and Melissa Janda are teaching a glass painting course within a few hours drive from you next spring. http://www.willethauser.com/glass-painting-intensive Kathy uses the Reusche Water Friendly Medium for a lot of her line work and expressive brushwork. I haven't seen her use it for enam...

Re: 'Site not found'

It may be a DNS issue, either a wrong DNS entry somewhere or an old cache DNS entry to the old site. If it looks at the old entry, it times out but when you refresh it looks at the second entry and goes through. You might have your hosting site check to make sure they have correct IP information in...

Re: Skutt Clamshell element management

I did some of the torch thing. Its a two person job and time consuming and unpleasant. You can do it though. I gave up and installed new elements from a skutt kit. I'm practicing creep avoidance technique now and am in remission pretty much

Respirator storage

The frit dust thread reminded me of a question I wanted to ask. Where do you store your respirator? It kind of wierds me out to put it in a sealed plastic storage bag that the manufacturer provides. It's not the most sanitary thing after I've worn it for a couple hours. And why seal it in a bag alon...

Re: need pot melt inspiration

I like my pot melts inspired by a pre-Raphaelite sentiment: You would wear a modest gown in a dark garden. Place the glass shards in the flower pot while clutching a small leather book to your chest. Look upward, pleadingly, to be released from the torment of temptation. Then I guess you bring it in...

Re: need a thin black line

The Josephine glass black has a low melting frit in it. It would dissipate the most of the three. I guess that either of the other two will do as well as anything else available. Rather than putting stock in my guess you could of course test them.
