Re: glass colorants

China/Porcelain overglaze colors i.e. 'china paint' might be a good thing to try. They've figured out the oxide combinations already and sell it to you in a low(er) temperature glassforming powder. And they have reds that are stable and not always full of cadmium. If lasers can sinter china paint an...

Your plan sounds fine. Best Black side down on kilnwash. Silver stain side up. Fire to low end of silver stain maturation

Re: Emulsion for Glycol/Glycerine Enamel Print Medium

I use a glycol-based water-soluble medium (Reusche D1368). I've been using Ulano Orange emulsion. If I'm printing enamels I may coat both sides of the screen, to get a little more thickness and deposit a little thicker coat of enamel, but for line work I just coat the bottom side of the screen. I've...

Re: Float Glass Sourcing/Safety Glass Process Questions

Your query was for 1/4 x 24 x24 annealed float glass. But all the discussion is about making tempered or safety glass. So I'm probably out of synch as usual, but anyway, almost any commercial window glass shop has sheets of 1/4" float that they'll cut into manageable pieces. 3/8" is strong...

Re: Ratio for combining two glass enamels

I'm suspicious that you might not be happy with Thompson Enamels. For example, the 'Victoria Red'. When I looked at their bewilderingly organized website just now it looks like that color is intended for use on copper. Do you see a version for glass somewhere? I haven't used Thompson Enamels for man...

It's for sale here on Warmglass.com. Still don't know what it is. I know it's not for Bingo. Down at the bottom of the enamels page.

Re: Moving a compressor. Disassemble?

The compressor got disassembled and moved in my small pickup truck. It is now up and running. Lifting the pump back atop the tank for reinstallation was the most challenging part. It's heavy. I'm weak. With a neighbor's help it got hoisted.

Re: Enamel & powder

Both are hard enough to manage/control and both have different issues with temperature and annealing considerations. I think the idea is ill-conceived. Therefore I think you should damned well try it and see what happens. You might come up with a texture that's totally cool. You can give it a french...

Re: Moving a compressor. Disassemble?

Drain the oil and take it apart. Here's a good link. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/moving-an-air-compressor.28198/ That's what I wanted to hear. It may still be a bad idea, but it was a bad idea endorsed by multiple posts on an internet bulletin board. I will claim innocence. Thank you.

I want to know too. I've seen them used for small items like jewels for stained glass. That's what I would be interested in them for.

Re: Moving a compressor. Disassemble?

Thank you for the suggestions. I was there when the thing was taken off of the truck new. Palleted and shrinkwrapped. It wobbled around on the liftgate. My son and his unfortunate friend from college were on hand to muscle the unit down the driveway incline and into my studio, using a refrigerator h...

Moving a compressor. Disassemble?

I may want to move my 60gal compressor. It would be a lot easier to manage, i.e. to get it into my pickup truck, and to get it out, if I was to remove the motor and pump during the move. It looks like just bolts after all. Buy a new gasket or two, look inside the tank for fun to see if the rust is b...

Good idea Don McC. If I don't get any takers I'll give that serious consideration.
