Re: California Homeowners Insurance

Yep. I have three kilns and a torch in our basement. All are for hobby use so my homeowners covers it. My wife does long arm quilting in our basement, and since it's a business, she has to have a separate policy on her sewing machine (and liability if someone slips on our walkway) costing over $700/...

Re: California Homeowners Insurance

If you are/were military or if you have family member who are/were military you can get USAA Insurance. They don't object to kilns unless it is for business purposes--then you need to get business insurance.

Penny Wise and Pound Foolish

Was working on a project using my Taurus Ring Saw and the blade broke. After changing the blade, a series of cuts that took a lot of pressure on the blade and about 5 minutes now takes less than a minute and very little pressure on the blade. Who Knew? Guess I should think about changing my grinder ...

Can't visualize how to use this mold

Hi, My son sent me a "Doctor Mud's Ceramic drape mold" and asked that I make a glass light switch cover for my granddaughter. ( https://picasaweb.google.com/114788086021526879481/WarmGlass ). I've seen light switch cover molds that you fill with frit and/or scrap glass--which makes sense t...

Funny I had the same problem last week. I had a gigantic bubble using the new thinfire paper. I also used red for the bottom piece. Since then I fired two more platters using the thinfire with black as the bottom piece--not a bubble (firing schedule stayed the same). Must have been the full moon.

I used the Skutt Kiln default schedule (Speed=slow and Full fuse). Both colors had the little orange "Bullseye compatable" stickers on them.

What did I do wrong?

Friday I drove down to C&R Loo and spent my Tax Refund on Bullseye glass and their new Bullseye thin-fire shelf paper. I fired a 14 x 14 inch piece with the new thin-fire under the glass. Because I was using the shelf paper, I didn't recoat the shelf with kiln wash. Net result is that I have a 5 inc...
