Re: How low and long to slump

I sure don't know where I got the schedule that has me slumping so HOT. I got a lot of very thick heavy bowls. The pot melts that I was attempting to slump are super thick in the center, and the sides pulled in a lot of the futz from the sides of the molds. ** My question now is, can I re-fire these...

How low and long to slump

I know of the usual slumping schedule for Bullseye, that takes the temp up to 1385. It works fine for most pieces that are full fused to 6mm. My question is how to allow for a much thicker piece? I have a pot melt that is probably a good 8 or 9 mm in the center. It does thin out a bit towards the ed...

PC monitor as light box for photos

I have been trying to take pictures of my plates. Here in the Pacific Northwest it's not always possible to find natural light. lol I have a pretty large computer monitor, app 20 x 10 inches, and was thinking that if I could get a nice white lit up background, I could stand the pieces in front of it...

Additional question..., how long for 3 layers

I wrote about my disappearing dichro. I am going to re-fire the pieces, on black squares. I also am going to heat to a higher temperature. My new question is; now that it is 3 layers I plan to process at 1490 d. There were some sharp corners, so I guess I didn't go high enough. Do you think 10 minut...

Re: Am I heating my dichro for too long?

I don't remember where I bought it, but it was someplace cheap-o. I noticed that the dichro showed up in the package and there was a black background. I have layered my two, already fused pieces on black squares. I also am going to heat to a higher temperature. My new question is; now that it is 3 l...

Am I heating my dichro for too long?

I had a square of dichro that was supposed to be emerald green. In the package, it looked green. After firing, there was no color at all, only a few sparkles here and there. Definitely no green. I used a simple square of dichro topped with a square of Tekta clear. This is the BE fusing schedule that...

Re: My oh my, is this schedule as weird as it looks?

Thanks, Valerie.
Am I mistaken thinking that since this piece had already been completely fused and annealed that it would require a very different schedule than the original one I used?

Re: My oh my, is this schedule as weird as it looks?

I agree, Velerie..., I don't know what I was thinking.
How about the rest of the schedule.

The box is one I made with this mold:
http://www.colourdeverre.com/product_de ... 4&id=16383

Sides are about 2.5 inches tall and no more than .75 inch wide at any point.

My oh my, is this schedule as weird as it looks?

I asked yesterday about re-firing a box I had made. I then viewed some BE videos and came up with a schedule I thought made sense... at the time. Now, it looks very very strange: 100 d to 200 hold 6 hr 100 d to 1250 hold 2 hr 600 d to 1525 hold 1 hr AFAP to 900 hold 6 hr 12 d to 800 hold 5 min 22 d ...

Can I Re Fire a cast box??

I made a couple of boxes awhile ago. After they were fired, the lids seemed a little loose. (I used fine and powdered Bullseye Glass frit.) I have layered 1/8th inch fiber paper in the mold and would like to re fire the box and lid, in hopes of a better fitting lid. The question I have is..., Since ...

I need water in my studio

This may be the wrong forum for this, but I'll give it a try. I would like to figure out how to create a set up where I can wash my hands, glass, brushes, and containers from wet or dry powders and whatever else. I would like to have that in my garage/studio. I have an old utility sink. I can run a ...

Re: Urgent HELP needed

Thanks everyone, I apologize for saying 'Urgent'..., you're right, I don't want to cry wolf. (But when it comes to grandkids, I get crazy and over-zealous.) Anyhow, we the rocks in the toaster oven, and none of the rocks were over 3 inches in size. 350 degrees is not really very hot. After a minute ...

Urgent HELP needed

My kids are here for a couple of days, and want to try an art project that starts by heating rocks in the oven to 350 degrees.
Do I need to fear them exploding when heated??
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks,

Re: How to make sharp lines

Thanks you all, I guess there is no way around the fuse, flip and fuse again.
I don't have any thin black, so I will try this with stringers for a design, and see what happens. I have some 1mm black, maybe I can get what I want with them. It will be an interesting experiment.

I can put designs on top of 2 complete layers, but I expected that top design layer would also spread.?.

Re: How to make sharp lines

It needs to be flat.
If I refire the piece I tack fused I am assuming the black will spread and not keep the straight lines.
Maybe I need to piece together clear pieces atop the black and white 3D piece?

How to make sharp lines

I am trying to get sharp lines of black on white, and topped with clear. I would like to keep the black from bleeding. I made two black and white pieces and tacked fused up to 1375d. Then I put a piece of clear on top of one and tried for a long slow full fuse with, what I thought was a 1 hour bubbl...

Re: purchase MR-97

I hope you don't my hi-jacking this post with a question about how you use MR-97? Once you have sprayed it on a mold and slumped or draped with it, does the mold need cleaning and/or re-spraying? I have some small molds I use for casting with frits and powders. I broke some by using primo primer, an...
