Re: Wetbelt sander belts breaking

Bit delayed in my response, but I saw a YouTube video on this a while back. Get some seam tape (not actually tape, but the fabric material they use to strengthen clothing seams) from a fabric store. Cut the seam tape to the width of the belt, one layer thick (seems to me it's folded over on itself, ...

Re: drop vases - color density problems

I have taken Amanda's class, you'll learn a lot from her. I've made a lot of these since that class about 15 months ago. I have to agree that was probably too high of a temp, especially with black, since it tends to move fast. I've done quite a few with a similar setup, 3mm of color and 9mm of clear...

Re: Glass extrusion

While you might be able to do something like this, in my limited vitrograph experience, you'd need a much bigger hole. This is like trying to pour molasses through a 1 mm hole. It may work, but you’ll never wait around to find out. I pulled rods and strings, and I had a ¾ inch hole in the bottom of ...

Re: Pot Melt

I've done the clear piece on shelf paper on a kiln washed shelf, but you want to make the clear piece as big as the dam you are using. And you want a solid piece of glass, no seams (or, at least the one time I "pieced" the clear, the result was, well, it's on a shelf somewhere in my worksh...

Re: best glass bandsaw

I have a Revolution XT, love it. It runs through thin and thick pieces (I've cut sheet glass to 1", including slices off that were 1/8" from a 1" thick slab), has a thin blad (slightly more than 1mm), and if you go slow, it won't break out at the end of the cut. And as the brochures s...

Re: Lid Lifter

It's not even sided, it's something like 26 X 44, so the only choice is 180 degrees. Robin - If you replace the bricks, you don't need to rotate the steel band. But what you do need to do is follow Skutt's directions for replacing the steel band, which involves tightening the band (holding the threa...

Re: Lid Lifter

Conceptually rotating the lid sounds good, but the GM1414 has elements in the lid, and the element leads feed from the right side of the lid. Rotating them would have them on the left side.

Re: Needing Advice about Boron Nitride

Cindy, I feel your pain. I found that Slide worked well at about 1225F, but when I used it at 1325F on my stainless steel molds for weaves, it was pretty much a roll of the dice as to whether I would end up with Slide stuck to the glass. I got the same answer from them as you did, they really make t...

Re: drop vase - strips separating when making blank

I think you are seeing two different issues. If you fire strips on top of a clear blank, the clear will usually "float" up in the seam. You really see this when the opaque seams don't butt really tight. You'd think the top color would spread out, but it's more like it settles down and the ...

Re: fiber blanket under pot melt?

I've found that using a piece of thin clear, sitting on a piece of shelf paper, works very well, assuming: 1. You are damming the piece, so the clear piece completely covers the shelf paper 2. You use a single, solid piece of clear (that comes from the experience of once and only once thinking I cou...

Shelf Primer Flaking Off Shelf as it Dries

I recently did a screen melt using a piece of stainless steel screen I had used before (so no weird metals involved, 304 stainless). It was a 20 inch circular piece, so I wasn't able to cut a piece of clear thin and place it on shelf paper inside the stainless steel ring I used for a dam, so I coate...
