also more choices with bullseye and uro 90

Linda, I agree with Brock and would like to add that there are more color and texture options in COE 90 glass too. Spectrum is making an effort to close that gap however and so since you are new to it and have invested much in inventory of 96, I might just stay with it. I often wish (due to cost) th...

These are just my internal photos so barbara Muth was kind enough to say she would post them on list or whatever. I emailed some to her last night. I'm just jammin right now and don'tr ahev time to mess around with the phot stuff. I have cut up the main piece and removed the salvagable parts and am ...

i happen to like the QEP 61000

I like the QEP 61000 because I can change the rpm's via the belt and slow it down, it's 2HP and it's about $500 or less at the Depot. It comes with a stand but I like a more stable structure to get smoother motion. I don't like the little pumps that seem to be on all of them and like to really flow ...

good point

Barbara, I just wrote this incredibly long reply to the critique issue from Catherine's string and got an error message that said "invalid session" when I went to send it. To summarize my otherwise brilliant and clever comments- I don't know why I would want a technical critique of my work...

pictures?- yes, but how?

Charlie,

I have some photos of the various stages of the projects and different iterations and the "cosmic, swamp green".

i don't know how to attach them here. Can you give me a regular e-mail address or tell me how to do it?

Thanks, David

Mine's emotional/feeling based

Thanks so much for writing about this. I only come on this board when I need some technical help because I am so busy and so easily distracted that I am afraid I'll hang out. It is really great to once again have the thoughtful, feeling glass-world community right at my keyboard. As far as my "...

Thanks to all

Lisa, Geri and Barbara, Thank you all for the advice and suggestions. I took a closer look and sure enough, you folks were right- I had sealed off about 4 inches around the rim of the part and had created a central air gap that was the source of the bubbles. I had been doing two different soaks- one...

2nd thoughts on the trapped air

Thanks Geri- As I said in my experience the frits usually need to go higher temps to get the clarity I like. Have you had luck soaking large or coarse frits at lower temps and getting them to flow well and have a high clarity? I simply haven't done that one and would like any advice on that availabl...

Lisa- I think you might be right; Geri- thanks

Lisa, I thought about it after I wrote the post and I think you might be right. I am probably trapping inbetween the base and the green. It's just funny that I haven't had this before. Might be the weight on the upper layers causing a slumping seal in pockets and the green is pretty bumpy and brittl...

Yet another Bubble issue- but a specific one

9/28/03 Fellow- Bubble warriors, I have gone through the archives and the new listings- did not see this one. Has anyone ever had specific problems with large, aggressive bubbles using large pieces of Bulleyes 1412-30- that sparkly green semi-transparent glass? It is happening in the glass- like vol...

Thanks Charlie- They say it is denatured with methanol but since I use the Home Depot variety, it could be "the idea of methanol". I think I should try high purity isopropyl and see if it makes a difference. At least I know what I'm getting then.

BE it is!

I find the BE pink to work best too. I tried the Unique glass seperator and when it worked- it was lovely. Very smooth. Unfortuantely for me it was a crap shoot and it is expensive in terms of wasted product and the overall cost of the wash. BE has never stuck and I fire 4 or 5 kiln runs a day, 6-7 ...

Question for Brad, etal- Ethanol

Brad, I've been chasing down a random weird devit/sludge problem that may be kiln paper/kiln wash/regular devit/kiln brick/saw blade slurry/ etc related - a ghost in the machine type problem. While researching, I found in the archives your adamant statement not to use denatured alcohol to clean the ...
