Re: MELT FUSED INTO CRACKLED PIECE
Refusing with the melt is always risky...sometimes it works...sometimes they break.. The high temp. used to produce the melt sometimes will shift it's COE..thus additional fusing is not an exact science. In my experience working with melts should be considered experimental..don't bet on the results.....

Re: Use of kiln space
I fire a lot of smaller off cuts, broken chunks, pendant failures, anything colourful under 2" or so.....I then give them to all of little neighbor kids on the street. They love them and their parents tell me they have become currency with sorting and trading going on.
Lots of fun!

What Marty said works great. You can buy 2'x4' white cor. plastic at Home Depot...simply cut just half way thru and you can have a 3 sided shield that folds flat for storage.

Re: Bubble Repair?
Along with the bubble squeeze you need to add the chad(s) described in detail here many times in the past. I am able to fuse2 sheets 22" dia. circles with one chad....no bubbles ever.
Your only choice now is blast or drill out all bubbles add frit or small chunk in each and refire.

Re: dichroic and no kiln
the Dichro needs the heat to make it work! When heated to fusing temps it's capped surface crazes thus causing the sparkle, and it usually color shifts. You won't get this effect with cold fusion!

Re: Shock from kiln
This getting a shock from a kiln when it is turned off sounds to me like it's not correctly wired. We in Canada have the same basic system as the US. There is no way you can get a shock from a properly wired (which includes grounded) turned off kiln!!! Better get it checked!

Re: how do i charge a firing fee?
Your asking for trouble (IMO) Who figures out the firing schedule? What happens when something goes wrong? (devit, kiln wash sticks, glass breaks, shrinkage due to volume problem, etc. etc.) What is your liability?? Local glass store charges $25. per firing (and they have mentioned grief involved, G...

Re: Vitrification on Opal?
One of the common causes of devit is "glass not squeakey clean"!!! ...Make sure you glass is CLEAN...CLEAN...CLEAN. Don't use chemicals just some diluted dish detergent then RINSE...RINSE...RINSE. This is a simple solution to 90% of devit. problems.
