Re: It cracked AGAIN!

I would not use this. It will only continue to self destruct. These pot melts/screen melts/high fires are experimental at best. With COE shifts and other complications they are often unreliable!

Re: casting a stepping stone

An alternative to casting is outlined by Bullseye tech sheet "Working Deep"....you wind up with a stack of compatible glass (10 to 14 layers) fused with minimal bubbles, excellent clarity, and the oportunity to add internal design layers...(see Dorthey Hefner).........final firing is about...

Re: sharing my choices of protective clothing for combing

I"m sure opening the kiln at high temps to comb is increasing the brick stress in the lid, thus more chunks falling into your work. The 2541 and kilns like it were not designed with this use in mind. A fibre kiln with enclosed elements would seem to suit the opening and combing function better....

Re: Special Saturday Glass Challenge

I'm wondering about the mould you show in the photo. It looks deep and I like the width of the flat rim. Is it available or is it custom? It is 20"dia. x (how deep)
Thanks, Don

Re: New Spectrum Papyros Kiln Shelf Paper

Tested it for local wholesaler....Don't like it!! sticks to opals....rougher texture than thinfire...not impressed....will not be a substitute to thinfire for me. I'd pay double for "Thinfire" if necessary.
My 2 cents.

Re: aesthetic versus practival side of hanging fused glass

I suggest that white plywood or thrift store frames cheapen your work. A stand alone glass art piece spaced off wall would be a more "Gallery" quality mount.

You can purchase a very inexpensive pair of welders gloves from Harbor Freight probably $5. to $8. Will last forever.

Re: turquoise opal 96 question

I doubt that it's the fault of the glass...Maybe something from inside your kiln.

Re: Tack Fusing Problem

On the way down (9999 to 950) may be your problem...(it's better to approach anneal more slowly).....try 9999 to 1000 then 80 to 950.... then continue anneal

Re: a table

The "Inner Life of Trees" at 5' tall is a major piece of sculpture! Congratulations...I wonder how much it weighs? It would be interesting to see it in an Architectural setting (eg..your house with the artist in the photo for scale.) Do you have any technical or production facts you'd like...
