Re: Light weight Kiln Shelf

Thanks all for your recommendations. I think I found what I'm looking for in the Armstrong Ceramaguard. My issue wasn't energy, it was weight. I need a large shelf to work on outside the kiln that doesn't need to hold too much weight, that I can then easily transport a short distance to my large kil...

Light weight Kiln Shelf

Hi All,
I'm looking for a lighter weight kiln shelf NOT cordierite -have that already. I know that Bert Weiss has mentioned some HD fiberboard shelves he gets somewhere. Does anyone know his source? I know he has posted it before, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks!!

Re: How to mount...

I've thought about that, but at 2 feet tall I think it would need to be thicker than 1/2" and substantially large. I'm leaning toward hanging it. Still puzzling it out....

Re: How to mount...

That sounds like a great idea. I don't have a jigsaw, but I do have someone that could do it for me. I would like something a little more 'formal' if that makes sense. Not sure I have many options at this point in the game.

How to mount...

In my new 'Artist In Residence' project, I disobeyed the cardinal rule - I did not think about how I would mount this torso before I began making it. Still have quite a lot of work to do before it's finished, but don't want to continue until I can figure out mounting. Arg! I talked to Poppy @ Hang Y...

Fiber Kiln/Shelf

I have a new all-fiber kiln including the shelf. I have heard so much 'noise' about whether or not you can fire directly on the kiln washed fiber shelf OR you should use thin fire, I'm don't know how to proceed. Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Re: Sandblaster water separator.

Just. Wow. And, thank you! I did everything you suggested Tony - and Jagboy and Kevin. I also purchased the dryer that Jagboy linked me to and it is amazing! I am using 3' rubber hoses instead of the long coiled ones that I had previously been using, have the dryer installed at the compressor and an...

Re: Sandblaster water separator.

I want to make sure I'm putting the dryer (or copper) whichever I end up using in the correct place along the line. I have my blaster hooked up to a foot pedal. Soooo my compressor hose goes into my foot pedal then another hose out of the pedal into a hose which then goes into the cabinet. Where alo...

Sandblaster water separator.

I live in South Florida (very humid) and have my sandblaster on my screened porch that has been in use for 5 years. Using a 3 HP compressor. Been working well for me to remove kiln wash, etc., not anything heavy duty. I'm using it more and more these days and am having problems with moisture. After ...

Relay Mishap

I had a large kiln load of (thankfully) first-firing glass that was all double 3mm pieces of 18" x 3" strips. I went to check before bedtime, and three hours after starting the kiln it was already up to 1440°. Other than a few more little champagne bubbles than usual, all look fine this mo...

Re: Attaching Glass Panel to Aluminum

In the image below, there is no "backing board". The glass is siliconed directly to the aluminum, and one side of the aluminum is painted for a nice finish prior to adhering the glass. One or more D-rings riveted to the aluminum. You can use one D-ring and hang the work using it, or if yo...

Attaching Glass Panel to Aluminum

I have searched the board and found some info on how to attach glass to aluminum, but not in enough detail to try it myself. I need to know how to attach the aluminum to the backing board, what kind of hangers work best (for both the backing board and the aluminum-to-glass), etc. Basically, the 'Dum...
