RE-slumping

Hello all, I just peeked into my kiln at a beautiful 14" bowl and noticed that one of the edges has a scalloped raised edge. The kiln is at 600 and coming down. It already annealed for two hours. I'm not going to like this ripple. Can I just start now and go ahead and run it through the slumpin...

Re: Tiny hole

I can not ever post a picture. For an unknown reason. But I filled the tiny hole with matching fine frit and added a similare design element. It was successful and place in the CoOp Gallery for sale.

Tiny hole

Argh, gorgeous piece. 15 x 15". Perfect, other that a very tiny hole. Any suggestions on repairing and re fusing. The hole is 1/8" x 1/4". This piece is a high low surface. It is a cracked glass piece that is two layers but on a single layer section it has small dot enhancements and t...

Re: Sharpie paint pens

Yes. I love them. The Oil Based ones. I made 35 Red Cardinals and offered people personal names on them. They came out beautifully. I used the extra fine point

Re: Odd crack

I think your correct and this happenned on a piece a while back. It actually had a large crack on the top layer with soft edges. Very cool looking actually, I put it in my gallery and it actually sold quickly! For this piece I did go faster, I began at 450 dph and that is a schedule I use for small ...

Odd crack

There is a crack that is only on the top layer of my 14" platter. It is healed and soft. Not through the second layer. It also did not crack through the design on the piece. Why would this occur. It is. Small squiggle shape. Not n S or a c shape. It appears that it cracked and then fused togeth...

Re: Thermocouple

POST MORTEM So, all of the little parts replace, down to the wires, literally and my kiln lid still would not heat past 880. It ramped perfectly to 600 but by 700 it slowed down to a few degrees per hour. I eventually got some help from Bartlett, wonderful technician that worked with me troubleshoot...

Re: Wall elements

Thank you. I will have my new lid in a couple of days, whew! In the mean time I attempted to fuse a small 9" plate with a poinsettia in the center...I went with an adjusted schedule, a full fuse, but ramped slowly, 175dph. I still got little bubbles. They when I formed it I got thermal shock. O...

Wall elements

I am curious to know what the difference is between using the side elements or the lid. My Olympic Kiln is equipped with both. Although I always use the lid. This is a 186GFELTC and the largest kiln that uses 120, so this kiln can not use both at the same time. Either lid or wall. Is there any reaso...

Re: grinder or cutting system?

Regardless you should have both, develop a well equipped shop with all tools of convenience. I know master glass artists that use grinders and saws and cutting systems. Glass sometimes has a mind of its own regardless of your skill, glass will do what it wants =D>

Re: grinder or cutting system?

Well I would start with a good cutting system. You can cold work a rough edge by hand with a stone or a diamond dremmel tool. I have the Beetle bits system and love it.

Re: Thermocouple

Thank you Bert, I have it all running now. There was a fried wire that connects to one of the elements. My husband is going to be replaceing those wires in th next few days. I need to catch up on a few orders first. Right now I am having some good firing with the body elements. I did not know that y...

Re: Thermocouple

Update. This kiln is fitted with wall elements. This model lets you choose which to use, lid or wall. I never use the wall, but I just now fired them up and VIOLA they are working. I am at 900 and rising. So perhaps my voltage is ok after all and the issue with the lid wiring. I wonder still how wil...

Re: Thermocouple

Thank you Kevin, it just failed. E-1 at 887 Olympic installed the elements into the lid, could they have put in the wrong ones??? How would I know that they are the wrong elements. Olympic set up the lid so that all I had to do was connect the new lid. They did almost sent the wrong relay switch but...
