Re: Which molds?
I am ever so thankful for advice on this board. I recently "invested" 62.00 for 16 circles that range from 6" to 16" . They are made from bulletproof plexiglass. I don't need them that strong but that's what they offer. They cut them to the exact sizes I asked. Wonderful for trac...

Pattern Bar Slices
I've made a bunch of pattern bars and cut them into 1/4 inch slices. Some are a bit thicker and a few are thinner. What should I do to these before I use them as elements in larger pieces to make bowls , plates ect. Should i use my lap? To what finish? Or, do i sand blast them? Also, do they need to...

This is the technique that Els Vanden Ende was working on at Pilchuck in 2010; she did some really beautiful work that's now traveling in Bullseye's Act 2 The Glass Track show. http://www.bullseyeglass.com/kilnforming/bay-area-gallery-act-2-the-glass-track-bay-area-377.html[/quote] Very nice work, t...

Re: Flat Lap Technique
Sorry - I misinterpreted the disk measurement you cited - I thought you meant the abrasive disk was 6" in diameter, and you were talking about the glass disk. Right? David, absolutely no problem!! I'm so greatful for all the experience of artists here . Perhaps it was me that didn't use the co...

Re: Rocks
When using rocks, make sure you don't use "soft" rocks such as sandstone, limestone and pumice as they can absorb water and blow up at higher temps. Working with outward bound for several years it was commonplace to teach about "hard"rocks when making fire pits.

I have rod disks that have hundreds of cut rods and disks that are round pot melts that range from 6-13". I remeasured the disks today. They are not very smooth and I want to perfect them before I slump them Into bowls. The flat lap grinder has 24 flat disks in several grades. Laura, where do y...

What happened with the dowel method? Ah, someone else is a night owl eh ;). I think it was your post that suggested using a dowel and waterproof tape. I'm actually a bit scared of not doing it right and have a jagged rod disk catipolted towards me (or my golden who always lays so he touches me whil...

Flat Lap Technique
I have several disks 6-18 inches and a 24" lap . I would like to start using the succession of grinding disks to make these smooth and attach a 1"x7" inch dowel with waterproof duct tape to the back. I have checked locally and no one provides coldworking classes and because of commitm...

Re: Wearing gloves when cutting glass
I still do some stained glass (mostly military themed for our pilots) and recently at Costco they had a pack of gloves for gardening I believe . I bought them and found they worked very well with dextarity so I tried them while working and really liked them over the other gloves I have tried. They a...

Vitrograph setup
Looking though BE's tech notes I still have a few questions. I'm almost sure I read that someone posted using a metal sheet (what type, size and thickness?) under the kiln. I can't find the post any longer :/ what size hole should be cut out? My goal is to make rod bowls (like the seven i did out of...
