Re: Plaster/silica mold improvements

Les, I agree that Zircar's a good place to look, but the problem isn't so much the mold as the release at prolonged temperatures of 2100F or thereabouts. MM6 might hold up, but I'm not sure I'd trust either kilnwash or most of the BN sprays I'd like to do some experimenting with paper clay under no...

Re: Vitrograph Kiln set up

I also use a vermiculite board, drilled a hole in it, I sat that on an old kiln shelf with a hole. I was worried about it cracking hence the kiln shelf under it. I also use a coller with my caladra so I can use taller pots.

Hope this is of some help

Re: Making a mold of a bowl

Thank you Dana, The customer is still in Europe so as soon as they sail back I'll share this mold . I'll check bluefure contact info and call them about the size. I doubt my customer cares but it would be much cheaper to use a ready made mold. I'm still going to do the clay process as I love to lear...

Re: Making a mold of a bowl

Thank you all so much, what I've decided to do is carve the shape on a leather hard 14" round peice of clay. Fire it with vent holes. Pre fire a 1/4 in piece of glass and then use the mold with enamels/frit. Then slump it. Would screening enamels over the prepared mold be better than using frit...

Re: Making a mold of a bowl

Morginia , That's a great idea, I am going to change it a bit and they don't want clear. The colors are yellow/brown to go with green plates. Not my choice tho' however it's not as bad as the customer who wanted a full size ferret SG window a few years back for her bedroom window. Thank you very muc...

Making a mold of a bowl

Hello, Is it possible to make a mold of the inside of a bowl and utilize it? I was approached and asked if I could make 12 salad bowls just like this bowl which is made if some type of hard plastic. I do have a quart of silicon mold as well as ceramic mold and clay. Thank you Shereen My new year res...

Re: cloth "molds"

I have some lava cloth and have used it make nice designs in glass. The ceramic lava cloth worked well for me, I wonder if it was different than the cloth you bought. I'll take a photo of the glass and post it.

Hanovia Gold

Hello, I was given a dozen 2oz bottles of Hanovia gold and most of them need thinning- 2 are completely dry. They are (or were) sealed up and looking at the prices on them they are fairly old. I don't want to experiment putting something like clove oil if its not the correct thing. Does anyone know ...

Jim, I too have the same standing cabinet, you might find this video helpful as he does some modifications of his cabinet. The issues I fixed right off was the poor lighting and the nozzle. Both of these are easily fixes. My next task is sealing areas where AO leaks a bit. Good luck https://m.youtub...

3d printers

With 3d printers getting cheaper and larger Im very tempted to get one. What can a glass artist use one for? Besides making designs you can then make a mold with.

Thank you
